New Jersey Castle

I am having a difficult time deciding on a castle for a Demeber 2012 wedding.

I really want a venue that has a castle-like feel inside and out. I do not want to have have my reception in a tent.

Maryvale castle in Maryland  is close to where I live, but it is slightly small and I do not like the idea of having to shuffle my guests back and forth between the 4 downstairs rooms. The rest of the "castles" in Maryland look like large stonework mansions or are small. Then I was looking at Skyland Manor in New Jersey. While the interior is goregous, the exterior does not seem very castle-like to me. Please help.

Thank you!

I would check out Skylands Manor (Castle in Ringwood, NJ) and the Pleasantdale Chateau (in West Orange, NJ). What is your price point?

I am on the fense about Skyland Manor. The interior is gorgeous. But the exterior does not look very castle-like. We were thinking of a budget max of $25,000.

You can try Ramsey Country club, not sure if it's "castle" enough for you but the stone on the outside is also located in the cocktail hour room.

My best friend Had a Renaissance themed wedding complete with costumes and swords. She wanted a castle too and fell in love with the Castle at Tarrytown NY. It was out of her price range though and she got married at the Ramsey CC.

How about the Sand Castle Winery right over the border in PA?  http://www.sandcastlewinery.com/

I second the Pleasantdale Chateau.  When me and my FI first pulled up, all he could say was..wow it looks like a castle.

What's your budget?  Its going to cost us our first child to have our wedding there but its soo worth it.  Sorry little johnny!

If you are willing to have your wedding in NY..the most bad ass castle I know..is the oheka castle.  If money is no object..go there.

Im getting married at Skylands in 4 weeks. I can report back then. But it will probably fit in your budget depending on what month/day you want to get married.

@ kristen8040 & Giaspo - The Ramsey CC looks nice, but it does not thrill me. Thank you for the suggestion though.

@ Ghoti - Lambert Castle looks interesting. I have have to research that venue some more.

@jroxx - Sand Castle Winery does not seem very castle-like to me. Thank you for the suggestion though.

@ JerseyML - Oheka Castle is awesome, but too far for my guests to travel to.

@sserra - I love Skyland, but I think the exterior looks more like a large stone manor than a castle.

Lambert Castle does not have a reception area. In fact, you are no longer allowed to even do a ceremony inside. You can mainly rent it for indoor pictures or use it for outdoor pictures for free after the public hours are finished.

I had the same "castle" venue desire for my wedding.  I was married at Pleasantdale Chateau and while I didn't find it very caste like, it was very French Manor-ish and romantic.  I liked Oheka a lot but it was very far for many of my guests and very costly.  I loved Skylands from the outside, their food is great, but was not in love wih the ballroom.  The Caste on the Hudson in Tarrytown was exquisite but is very limiting in size - I think they fit 80 guests comfortable with a dance floor.  There is a place in PA that is supposed to be lovely, Fonthill.  You may also like where I was engaged, which is not too castle-like but very unique and breathtaking.

I am getting married at the Pleasantdale Chateau--  but you may want to look at the Aldie Mansion in Doylestown (Bucks County), PA.  I grew up in the area and have been to many weddings there.  Not sure if it's too "manor" for you though! :)
