No bouquet for Bride or Bridesmaids

I am thinking of nixing the bouquets altogether ..

Has anyone been to a wedding where they did this?

What are your thoughts?

Bouquets are kind of a bizarre idea if you think about it (like why does a bride or bridesmaid have to carry flowers with her?), so I think it is fine.  But... you may want to have them (maybe really small ones) or something else in people's hands.  Otherwise you guys may look odd walking down the aisle with your hands at your side... I think a bouquet kind of serves as a reminder to walk in a slow and ladylike fashion.

I also think that their main purpose is so that you don't look odd just walking down not holding anything and not know what to do with your hands/arms.....I have seen pictures of brides/BMs just carrying one flower.....it's pretty and different.

I went to a wedding where the bridesmaids just carried a single rose. It looked very sweet and simple. The bride had a bouquet though.

I had my girls carry candles. My ceremony was at night and I sort of went with a literal candlelit ceremony. Pews had small lanterns on them and lights were turned down low. I loved the way it looked.

The only downside was during photos. I hadn't considered that the girls wouldn't have anything to do with their hands so some of the pics looks a little awkward, but I still have a few cute ones to pick from and only one will be used in the album anyway so it isn't a huge deal, just something to consider.

ETA: I had a bouquet though.

I've never been to a wedding where there weren't bouquets. But if you don't want them, then don't have them.

I liked having the bouquet in my hands when I was walking down/up the aisle, and when I was posing for photos, because I liked having something to do with my hands.

My and MOH's bouquets were on the ground by MOH's chair for the entire ceremony, though, but we were seated and could put our hands in our lap.

A lot of girls are starting to ask their BMs to carry clutches instead of bouquets.  The bride usually picks out one that everyone carries down.  They aren't necessarily the typical "night out" clutches... I've seen ones that are more ornate.

Speaking of clutches, does anyone else remember the knottie who wanted to have her girls carry their bouquets in Louis Vuitton shopping bags?

(That is not a suggestion.  Just a trip down memory lane.)

I've recently seen people doing flower bracelets.

You take a wide piece of ribbon and glue/sew a flat flower like a gardenia on the ribbon and wear it like a bracelet.

It's like a more elegant corsage.

I have seen pics like the above ones with the bridemaids posing with the clutches but I have never seen a pic where the bridesmaids are actually walking down the aisle with the clutch.  Makes me think it probably doesnt look that good.  I would go with candles or a single stem of flowers.

The origional reason (random trivia) was that because you almost never showered back in the day the flowers were there to mask the odor :) romantic right?

I think as the bride you should have flowers.  I guess I care less about the BM's but I think the purses would look a little silly.
