We're doing chocolate covered candy apples and getting them from a local chocolate shop. What kind of favors are you looking for? There are plenty here on the knot shop if you're looking for tins for candy and many others. If you have an idea of what you're looking for I'd be able to direct you to more sites.

Edible is ALWAYS recommended. Trinkets don't always go over well. So if there is a favorite snack or something you and FI love try packaging that up and giving that as your favor.

I was leaning towards coasters but I didnt know if I should do edible or it would look to cheap?

I don't get the coasters idea at all, and this is my opinion, I think the edible stuff is better, no one gets excited over coasters...

I almost did coasters, the girls on the board convinced me that they would collect dust (one girl even said she loved them, but she never used them) so I went with edible, chocolate dipped pretzels one with differen toppings (drizzle, sugar oreos) and boxes with truffles.

We are doing a candy buffet. I like edible favors because chances are I will eat it and it will be gone. The problem with a trinket is that if it doesn't match my house or personality or if its one wine glass with your name on it it dosen't match what I have. So I tend to put them in a cabnet. I feel bad about getting rid of them but I also can't really use them. I was at a shower and got the pinch of love touch of heart type measuring spoons. I love to bake but those aren't the correct size (not to mention they are not labled) so I can't use them but I feel bad getting rid of them.

I'm gonna go ahead and give the opposite opinion. You need that sometimes.
I don't like edible favors. There's going to be enough to eat at my wedding, trust me. something edible will be eaten and never remembered.
At least giving them a trinket of some sort, they GET something to keep. Even if they decide to let it collect dust, they get to take something home and not just get more food....

I really like the custom shot glasses, for example.

I found this on etsy and fell in love - if you are into animals/preservation/eco friendly things - it is a monogram birdseed favor, $1.25 each.

I'm not really into the edible idea myself for a wedding.  I'd prefer a donation favor or something to remember.
I'm likely doing candy dishes for favors.  Perhaps I'll add candy inside.

i think coasters is a good idea
it's not necessarily something you have to display in your house, so if it doesn't match your decor it doesn't really matter and i would think guests would get use out of them

I'm really picky about keepsakes, and plus I'm going to remember a wedding if I had a nice time, not because I have a *thing* sitting around. We have an overload of stuff in our apartment and so I'd really dislike having to take something home with me.

So my vote definitely goes to something edible - candy, truffles, a cookie, caramel apple, mints, etc.

I also vote a big NO on coasters. My mom did a bar-themed wishing well at my shower last week, and now we have coasters coming out the wazoo. Seriously, I think we got about six sets of coasters!!! I appreciate it, but WTF am I going to do with all of them? :P (And about eight sets of wine charms, too, and we don't even drink wine!)

I guess it comes down to knowing your crowd. I know my guests will prefer something edible. If you think your guests are used to a trinket or something like that then go for it! I just hate the should I throw it out should I keep it guilt!

I always liked a mini-bottle of wine or champagne.  My latina friend did coffee and a coffee scoop, another who is Italian did a pizza cutter..

I have to say, I would not use the coasters.  They would go right in the trash at the hotel.  Edible is better or a donation.  Or no favor at all - I've never been to a wedding and been pissed off I didn't get a favor.

You can have a mix of both, aside from our apples we're giving fans away with our names and wedding date on them, we're getting married outside in August so we're putting these out on the chairs before the ceremony.

I've gotten those photo coasters from both showers and weddings - and I have never used any of them. Anyone giving them out as their favor? I'll donate 5 sets to you ;) You know, the ones with the teal blue-ish frame, glass coaster, sold at BBB?

I think it would be hard to come up with coasters that a good number of your guests will like enough to use.  Custom shot glasses are even harder -- do you think most of your guests will want shot glasses personalized about YOUR wedding?  Same with hockey pucks -- cute idea in theory if you love hockey, but my husband likes hockey and regardless we have absolutely NO use for a hockey puck, let alone a wedding-themed one.  What would we with for since we don't play ice hockey, display it in our home?  (And as I said, my husband likes hockey and even plays roller hockey... still, zero need for a puck).

That's the problem with pretty much any non-consumable favor.  No matter how practical or novel it is, chances are it will either not be the guests' taste, not be something they need another of, or they will not want to display it because it is all about you or your wedding, and not about them.

We did chocolate hockey pucks as both MH and I play hockey.  My husband wanted to do the actual hockey pucks and I said the same thing uppereast said...what is everyone going to do with a hockey puck!   So, we did the chocolate ones instead, and I made them all myself!

That bird seed is really great!
I was thinking of having a cookie bar, and letting the guests take home cookies at the end of the night as a favor.  In an ideal world, I'd also love to have a photobooth so guests can take their photos home as favors.... but we shall see.
In general, I tend to agree that edible favors are best - it's something everyone will "use" - however, things like photos from a photobooth are really cool favors too.  You get to take home a memory!  (I majored in photography so I may be biased....)

i definitely have to put my vote in for edible favors.  I find most people have absolutely no use for non-edible favors, and they often end up in someone's "junk drawer" or in the garbage.

ejeye - i was thinking of doing a cookie bar type thing myself where guests could pack up cookies in a cute box and take them home.

I was thinking of doing scratch off lottery tickets with a cute envelope and maybe a penny from our wedding year. Does that sound corny? I was going to go with something edible, but with our cake and viennese hour, I felt like everyone would be in a food coma. I wanted mini wine bottles but they seemed to be really expensive. I love scratch off lottery tickets and was thinking someone would be bound to win!

I was thinking of getting an envelope like these designed with our colors.

I actually really like the scratch off idea!  It's not something that will sit in a drawer for years, and I mean really  -who doesn't love a scratch off??
