Going to Randolph DMV tomorrow for name change...

I'm a little behind on this (been married a month), but I'm finally going to the DMV and SS office to change my last name tomorrow.  Strangely enough I am super nervous about doing this-even more nervous that I was when I actually got married!  Is this normal?  Also Its been 5 years since I've been to a DMV (back in 2007, they were trying something new and gave me a licence that was good for 6 years...they changed it back to 4 years a few months later), is there anything I need to know or do before going there?  Is it easy?  I'm planning on going to SS right after.  Any advice would be great!  Thanks!

You have to go to SS first, change your name there then bring the paperwork w you to the DMV. It was pretty easy. Just have all the forms of ID, your marriage license and I think thats it. So your old license, a passport, a bill statement, all that good stuff... you'll do fine

Actually that's not true. All you need is a certified copy of your marriage liscense to change your DL.  I went to the DMV on a Friday and had no problem, I didn't go to SS until the following Tuesday.

Oh ok sorry- by me they said I couldnt do it that way. Thats good to know! Sorry for the incorrect advice Im in a different county

I went to the Randolph DMV to change my name and it was super easy. Like you I was real nervous and have to admit a little sad. Not only was I changing my name but I was changing my NY plates for NJ ones. I know its silly but it was an emotional process for me! Also, prior to changing my name I went to the SS office on Rt. 10 near Morris Plains and that took 2 minutes. I received my card less than a week later.

I am in Union County but I had no problem changing my name (last week).  I had to show a certified copy of my marriage license - they hardly checked my other stuff.
Also bring a proof of address - a bill / credit card statement, etc.

I went to Randolph and was in and out in 10 minutes. You do not need to do SS first. Infact, I still have not done that. I need to wait until school lets out because I can not take anymore days off/
