Amendment One

Hopping up on my political soapbox for a moment.

Do you know exactly what Amendment One will do if it passes? Yes, it will ban gay marriage. But it will also ban all domestic partnerships/civil unions including those between a man and a woman.

If it does not pass, gay marriage is still illegal in the state of North Carolina (there's a law against it). If it does pass, thousands (maybe hundreds of thousands) of North Carolinians will lose health insurance coverage- including some children.

Please read up on this Amendment before voting May 8th.

  • Thanks for posting this, MUNI.

If you need voting info try here http://www.ncsbe.gov/

If you aren't registered yet in your county, you've got one more day to go to a One Stop Early Voting location to register and vote at the same time. The website for searching by county is down right now but you can google "One Stop Early Voting NC _____" and fill your county in the blank and find out where to go.
  • I know I'm going to get beat for this but like you I have an opinion on Amendment One...

Biblical Truth and God's plan for His creation=One Man, One Woman. I understand this may limit the health and benefits for civil unions and children of unions but I must stand up for what I know is true. I have researched what Amendment One would mean for North Carolina citizens.

God's presence in my life is my life and I can't imagine living without or for Him. Please consider how sin will ultimately hurt us instead of the pleasures it presents ourselves with...I pray that God has control of our nation once again so we can experience His blessings.
  • Here's the deal megan.

Thanks to the first amendment of the U.S constitution, we have separation of church and state. Any law that is based in religion is literally unconstitutional. If you don't like gay marriage, don't get gay married.

Anyway, gay marriage is already illegal in the state of North Carolina.

To be honest, to think that you can know the impact of this bigoted, hateful amendment and still vote for it, disgusts me.

I'd love to see the verse in the Bible that specifies that marriage is between a man and a woman. No one has managed to show me one yet, and I have 16 years of Christian schooling under my belt.

Guess what, Sunshine. I'm a Christian too. But the God I believe in doesn't sponsor hate.

Do you follow every tenant of the Bible? Do you wear cotton/polyester blend clothing? Do you cut your hair? Wear gold jewelry? Yes? Then you're cherry picking from the teachings of the Bible. Pharisee.
  • I find it very interesting that people who proclaim to be Christians put something that really doesn't affect them, like gay marriage, above the safety and health of women and children. Blows my mind.

  • Wow - I'm moving to NC next week and was just perusing the boards to get a feel for it. Just....wow.
  • I was only sharing my love of God and how He loves me in return. I'm trying to spread His good news and truth. I don't claim to ever know everything about the Bible but I do try to live my life according to His plan. We are human, God made us this way...we were born into sin. There are scriptures of God's plan for us:

    Leviticus 18:22 NIV
"Do not lie with with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable"
Here the scripture is referring to God's people and their instructions concerning interpersonal relations and morality so that they can reflect God's holiness.

Genesis 2, just read the entire chaper...just to make sure I'm not cherry picking
2:18 "The Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."
2:21-24 "So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a womanfrom the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

There are several more but I think Genesis 2:24 sums it up. Hope this helps :)

  • Just from being on Facebook and around the internet today, the hatred and name calling coming from *both sides* has been horrible (even on the local radio station's fan page, for crying out loud). No one is "right" -- no one will ever be "right," there will ALWAYS be someone that is upset.

That being said, everyone is entitled to their vote. If you really wanted to make a difference, why would you sit on the internet and bully those that you don't know, sitting high atop your cloud of judgement? I would think you would want to be out in the community, talking with those that might not have an opinion yet, that are seeking the facts. Not a bridal forum... a place where people come to escape, to plan the best day of their lives...

I don't think you're being any more reasonable than those you claim to be disgusted with.

    Just my two cents.
