Cake topper for cupcakes?

Seeing the post below made me wonder if I would need a cake topper if Im planning to do cupcakes instead of a cake.  Would I need one?

    I've seen some cupcake towers that do a top piece (to take home for the one yr anniversary) so you could definitely do a cake topper on that.

    I've seen it done both ways.  You just need to think about the size and proportions carefully if you do one.

    I'm doing a cupcake tower & no cake topper. Really, I'm not a fan of cake toppers, so I don't think I'd do one regardless. We do have a mini cake on the top tier for us to cut & save.
