Yikes...how to pick a DJ?

Hi folks,

So how do you go about actually go about picking a DJ? Looking for one for my wedding in Monmouth County who is not a clubby person but who will get everyone dancing? Who would you recommend? gosh they all seem the same to me...

Help!
Thanks,
Danielle

Re: Yikes...how to pick a DJ?

  • read reviews and set up meetings with a few. Our DJ came prepared with wedding videos of a few different types of weddings he'd done (older crowd, younger crowd, etc). and showd us those. It was helpful to see him in action in his element.

The DJ we selected was DJ Adam at This Magic Moment. Good luck in your search.
  • I felt the same way as you.  I ended up seeing our DJ (Danny Kay from Premier Entertainment) at a bridal show and set up a meeting after that.  His personality just clicked so well with FI and I that there wasn't a doubt in our minds that he'd make our wedding a blast.  I didn't even meet with anyone else, although had seen other DJs at bridal shows and other weddings.  I guess I'd say just set up meetings and see how you mesh with the people you meet with.

  • I read reviews and talked to them. I'm going with Venue Audio. They also offer a lot and their price is great. www.venueaudio.co
  • My friend got married in January & we loved her DJ (Elite Sound Entertainment). We got their card before we left & set up an appointment for the following week. We booked them the next day!

  • Start simple and just give a couple a call or an email. See what everybodys prices are and see what they offer and narrow it down by that. Then see how you like each one you talked to and you can narrow it down even further. Some are way more expensive then others depending on your budget so that will be a factor as well.

S&D- Good choice. Justin and Brian did my sisters and he is so easy to work with and talk to. They did a great job so I am sure you will be happy. Congrats on checking something off your list!
  • We're having chuck Russo because three people I know used him and loved him. I attended a wedding he worked and I like him because he's not obnoxious and only plays what you want. I think his price is reasonable too.

  • I attended a wedding about a couple years ago that my DJ was djing at. I'm not a huge DJ fan (I'm more of a wedding band person, but once I saw the difference in price I changed my mind), but I loved ESP DJ entertainment. They are really great and they are very reasonable.
  • We went to a few Bridal shows everyone had a diffrent DJ playing.
  • We used Elite Sound Entertainment... They are seriosuly out of the norm.  They will keep the room dancing all night without the "corny" music.  We used Jay G and he was out of this world.. They're so easy to work with, accomodating, respond quickly, etc.  We didn't have a worry in the world and actually kept in touch after the wedding.  Elite Sound is a little on the pricer side, but they will totally work with you.  They were one of my fav vendors to work with.

  • Thanks  stk29251 !! Justin has been fantastic!
  • Who is Justin? Where is he from? Thanks:-)
  • Hes from VenueAudio. He is one of the owners of the company and did our booking and meeting with us. He was very nice and went out of his way for us. Their email is VenueAudio@gmail.com  Good luck!
  • Yeah, VenueAudio. He's been wonderful to work with. Always gets back to me within a couple hours, answers any questions, price is great, they offer a lot too.
  • I went a bit over board with the with picking a Dj because they are essential for great memories. I interviewed several and we went with Mike Foglio from RunAwayWithUs Djs. He was very attentive and down to earth, most importantly had the dance floor was packed all night:)

A really cool tool on their website called "Music Search" allows you to create youur playlist online too. The website is RunAwayWithUs.com

    All the best!
