Just Not My Day...

My Macbook was acting a little funny the past few days.  I tried to upload some of my wedding stuff to Google documents last night to be safe, but I kept getting errors.  I shut it down and figured I'd just deal with it this morning because other than running slowly, it was OK.  Except all I have left to deal with is a $150 bill for a new hard drive.  It completely crashed and the people at the Apple store weren't able to extract ANYTHING from it.  They had it for 8 hours today.  So everything I had for the wedding is gone along with pictures, email, etc from the past 2 years.   They recommended a local "data recovery specialist" and agreed to give me my fried drive.  Maybe with some luck this person will be able to recover some stuff.  I feel like a complete moron for not backing it up or putting at least some of it on a USB drive.

I'm kind of shocked that I'm not freaking out.  :)

Oh no! That really sucks! I am surprised you're not freaking out; I would be!

I hope the "recovery specialist" can get some of the info for you! I think its possible, I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

Same thing happened to me about 2 months ago.  I hope that you can get that stuff back, I wasn't able to and had to redo all my wedding stuff.  It sucked.  I still haven't gotten the back up system I want, but now what I do is print everything out or email it to myself so no matter what I still have a copy of it.  So sorry you are dealing with this, I know exactly how you feel!

Wow that really sucks - I'm sorry.  I had something similar happen with my work computer.  All my work is on shared drives, but since I had some personal folders on my C drive (including wedding stuff) I lost everything.

Thanks girls.  Luckily I printed out the Excel spreadsheet that had all of the addresses on it a few days ago.  We had to cross check it against our original guest list.  Some of the street addresses got cut off because the columns weren't wide enough, but I was able to retype all of them already except for 2 that got cut off.  I need to bring them to the calligrapher in 2 weeks, so I didn't want to wait for the specialist just in case.  My "new" laptop should be ready in the morning.  I think that's when it will really hit me that I have a blank laptop. I'm going to try to get the old hard drive to the specialist tomorrow- you never know, maybe they will be able to salvage something.

LOL yay I'm glad Chester was able to help.

I'm sure if Tucker gave you a nice big kiss it would make you forget all about it.  Dogs just always know how to make things better.  :)

That's terrible!  Hopefully the recovery specialist can get some stuff back for you.

I finished retyping all of the addresses last night.  I'm worried that I haven't even realized what else I've lost yet!

<div>I worried about that for about a week and then got over it, the way I see it, if you can't remember what it was then is couldn't have been that important.  </div><div>

    Thanks- I remembered.  Quicken.  Ugh.

I called the data recovery person, they quoted me anywhere from $50-$499.  I guess I'll drop the fried drive off on Monday and talk to them about it.  There are only a select few things I feel I "need" back, my wedding spreadsheets, my photo library and Quicken. The rest of the stuff I can most likely recreate.  I just don't want to have to pay extra money for stuff I don't need, but I guess I can't be picky at this point!

I have my "new" laptop back now.  Makes me feel better just having it!
