Passport name change

Hello ladies!

I've been away for several months now, but missing the knot.  I have a question for the mgs so I thought it was a perfect for my return.  I was married in July but officially changed my name to surprise my husband for Christmas (social security and my license).  DH and I are thinking of planning a trip for our one year so I want to change my name on my passport ASAP.  Any help on where and how to go about doing that?

You can get the forms online from the US gov, and your local post office (provided that they do passport services) will also have the paperwork.  You'll probably have to pay for a rush service  - but I am not positive on that one.

As long as you book the trip under your maiden name you can travel with your current passport.  That's what I did for our HM last month and didn't have any problems.  When you come home then you can change it without having to pay rush fees.

I actually have to do this myself because we booked a trip for our one year under my married name and I haven't changed my passport yet. If your current passport was issued more than a year ago you need to go get your picture retaken, fill out the renewal/name change papers on the passport website, and take everything along with a check for the renewal fee and mail it in. It's not as hard as it is to get a passport where you had to make an appointment at the post office and what not...it says you just have to mail everything in (all the directions are on the website). Current processing time says 6-8 weeks on the website, so I need to go do mine this weekend since I'm leaving in 15 weeks and don't want DH to get on the plane without me. lol

Hey welcome back!  Thanks for the idea to change your name as a surprise - I think I might do that and surprise my H.  Thanks to all for all of this good information.
