Tides people

We have a tasting this weekend ... what can we expect?

I think they said in the initial meeting that we can sample some appetizers and the entrees, right? Do they bring us several entrees of their choice, or do we order what we want like we're in a restaurant? And I think they said that they do not let us sample the cake beforehand, but do we get to sample anything else from their dessert buffet? Do we get beer/wine with the meal or are we limited to sodas and water? And who brings in the food, a regular waiter? Did you tip him/her?

Also, when I called to book the appointment, they said that Tom is no longer working there. So we will either be working with Scott or a new guy named Ron. Just an FYI to anyone else who would've been working with Tom.

Thanks!

We worked with Scott and although he was very nice during the process; he acted like he could give a red rat's arse the day of - shyt was not going as promised and there were, imo, some major foul ups - he could care less, he left 1/2 way through my reception -- a salesman is his job he doesn't really care beyond the booking (it seems that way)

during our tasting he is the one who "served" us...he brought out a sampling of ch foods but more of the salad type things - bean salad, etc. then we got a plated salad and 3 entrees beef, fish, chicken. We did not ask for anything he just brought what, in his opinion, were there best items. We also had a choice of wine - red or white, we asked for both.  We did not taste dessert at all, it was not offered to us.  But I didn't care because with that much dessert there's bound to be something for everyone

we did not tip - I did not feel it was necessary at all...re cake - it tasted good but looked like complete CRAP - like a blind 3rd grader's art project, no joke

Ask bella - her cake was just as bad...I was literally embarrassed of what it looked like up close FYI

    Thanks Kristen!

Were you pleased with the tasting overall? The stuff you described sounds like things that FI is going to get pissy over (not getting hors d'oeuvre-type things, not choosing our own entrees, etc.) and I *know* he's going to start complaining if it ends up going like this. Ugh.

Thanks for the heads-up about the cake, too. I remember a few other girls saying that their cakes aren't so pretty, but at least it's nice to know that it tastes good. If we weren't having the Viennese hour, or if we had the extra money to blow, we'd bring in a prettier cake from a good bakery. But like you said, with so much dessert people can eat something else if they don't like it.

We don't have our hearts set on a particular design so I think we'll just ask them to do the one they feel that they can execute the best, and I'll ask the florist to dress it up as best he can while he's there setting up the centerpieces.

I mean, the tasting was a tasting...nothing superb nothing lackluster - their food is good, definitely but it's not OMG over the top so it was what it was

If FI will be po'd about it then call before you go and be upfront about what you are expecting I mean I'm sure they'll be accomodating?

If we didn't have viennese I would have, without a doubt, got a nicer cake but no joke, I don't think even ONE single person ate the cake - except for me and DH who took the "mandatory bite" because the viennese was just ridiculous - but I'm telling you now -we had a very simple, very simple design and it was still bad - I would totally recommend picking the simplest design from THEIR book - you can buy sugar flowers online and at some local pastry shops - it will definitely spruce it up - we used real flowers atop the cake but it didn't help really

Sorry to butt in, but this is good to know!   I'm getting married there in September.   We are working w/ Tito.  I guess Scott was off the day we wanted to visit, so we signed the contract w/ Tito too.

They will let us bring in our own cake?  My friend owns a bakery and I wanted to ask her from the beginning...but wasn't sure if they would allow it.   We didn't go for the Viennese table....thought it would be too much food.....now I am feeling like we should add it OR bring in our own cake.  I dont want a cr@ppy cake....or cr@ppy anything on my wedding day...

Kristen, may I ask what promises did they not keep on your wedding day?

IDK what the rules are on bringing in a cake from an outside bakery. It wasn't a high-enough priority for us to look into it. I don't know if they charge you an extra fee, or if they just do not knock any money off your PP price (so I guess you'd essentially be charged for a cake that you're not getting).

If a pretty cake meant a lot to us, or if there wasn't a Viennese hour, we would've asked about it.

Yes, if you don't mind sharing Kristen, I'd be interested in your comments as well. If not then that's cool.

When we had our tasting, Tom asked us what we wanted.  There was 6 of us, and we got 2 chicken dishes, 2 fish and 2 beef.   I believe Tom brought us out a plate with some cold appetizers prior to our meal, and I remember having a salad as well.   He brought us a bottle of wine and MH had a beer.   As for dessert, he brought us a plate of various cookies etc.

We picked a very basic cake and it came out very nice, and IMO was very tasty.   Not too many people ended up eating it because we had the viennesse hour which is amazing.

    Thanks Laurie!

Hopefully I will remember to post a review after our tasting tomorrow, for future Tides brides.
