When do you change your name?

We are going for our marriage license next week and I'm wondering if I can start changing my name after that or if I have to wait until after the wedding and for everything to be signed?

You have to wait until after the wedding. Who ever is performing the ceremony has to sign it and it has to be sent in to be registered in whatever town you get married in. You then have to wait to get the actual certificate to start making changes

    Thank you!

I picked mine up two weeks after the wedding, but if you are going to be home, you can probably check a week later because mine was signed by the boro only a few days later.  Then, I got everything done in one day.  Went to SS office, Motor Vehicle for a new license and to change my car registrations, went to bank with DH to see how accounts were connected, change debit card, and checks, submitted form online to credit cards, got passport photo and sent out old passport (you could have the photo taken now if you want), voter name change form sent out (I didn't check it off on the license), changed email address on online accounts and sent new email to friends, and I had changed Facebook the day after the wedding.  As far as everything else, like hair salon and doctors, I will change as I make appointments (not bothering with store cards because I never use them anymore), and the only reason I didn't change my health insurance is because I will have a new one when the month ends.  Oh, and don't forget to tell your job -- all I had to do was fill out a new W-4 and PDF my marriage license.  It sounds like a lot, but once it's over, you probably won't ever have to do it again!

It does sound like a lot but at least it doesnt' seem to be a difficult process.  I saw this website called misstomrs.com or something where it fills out all the forms you need to mail or submit to each company.  Do you think it's worth spending the money on that or is it easy to do it all yourself?

Deal or not, it's a waste of money.  From what I understand they send you forms to fill out, and not all of the places where you have to change your name take their forms.  So you end up spending money to fill out extra forms.

It's not hard to change your name, just make a list and start checking things off.

Last week I posted about name changing, and there were a lot of helpful links provided. Scroll down and you will find it. Don't spend the money.

I agree with PP's.  My paragraph seems long, but it goes pretty quickly.  I did EVERYTHING in one day, but if you do SS and driver's license, all the others will come to you.  Most of mine was making phone calls and I filled out maybe three forms.
