Baker for Grooms Cake RAVE

I had looked and looked for a bakery that would do my grooms cake without charging an arm and a leg and I found one.

Paula is the owner and she is so cute.  Its located at her home in South Orange.  I am doing a poker table cake with 2 figures (one of me one of fi) and she is doing it for $300. I called pink cake box and they wanted $700.  She does only 4 cakes per week because she had does that cakes and her husband who I also met helps her here and there. If you are looking for a grooms cake please go see her. I did a tasting and she had amazing flavors and she drew me a sketch before I left last night.

     wish i knew this last week! i am going with palermos for my grooms cake. they were great too, willing to work within my budget and all and i think i have a pretty awesome cake. its 2 layers with lots of cutouts and fondant decor (its a yankees, cowboys, vegas, djais theme- or a collection of my FI favs). It is $400.  i also looked at pink cake box and they said $700 as well as the hudson cakery who priced me at $600! these cakes are outrageous!!

    i was by myself- they squished me in the day i called (which i really appreciated!) so I was the only one "tasting" because it was right after work They let me take all of the cake home though, which in my opinion was great! I am going for the cannoli cream and vanilla cake for the bottom and a chocolate cake with nutella filling for the top layer! have fun!!

    FI makes and decorates cakes....Maybe I should have him make his own grooms cake to save $$$ lol

    I contacted the bakery that is doing our wedding cake (included with venue) and he is charging us wholesale because we are getting both cakes from them.  I'm getting a golf themed cake for a little over $100.  Have any of you asked your wedding cake vendor?

    From what other girls have said on here the Brownstone doesnt love to do grooms cakes since they have their own bakery. And when you ask they try and charge a lot of $. So I decided since I will do it at the RD and just go with someone else.  But thats a great price good for you! The cake is cute.

    i haven't thought about this yet
    typically how many people should the grroms cake feed, what do i ask when talking to a baker.?
    i want this to be a surpise for FI and im looking for a chess board cake

    I asked my bakery and they said they typically do 1/2 or 1/3 sheet cakes
