NWR: Rant - When are the stinkbugs going to die?!?!

I'm so tired of them and I thought the cooler weather would kill them, but instead it's driving them indoors! AGHHHH!

Ew, I know! We've had our share of stinkbugs, and in the past few days are house has been like covered in box elder bugs, they're in the stink bug family. There are literally hundreds of them mostly covering the doors and windows. so. foul.

Ugh! I know! They are everywhere. I felt like it started two summers ago (2009) and they never went away. Where did those little bastards come from?!?!

They came from overseas on cargo boats....UGH.....

We started getting them bad when I lived in the townhouse....they are such lazy bugs would be laying in bed and one would just fall on you from the ceiling.....or you would be getting ready in the bathroom and would see one in the corner of your eye hanging out on top of the mirror....lol. I read some comments online, one guy swallowed one in his sleep, it crawled into his mouth....lol. I used to check the bed every night before getting in, including stripping the sheets off, and checking all the perimeter walls and ceilings.

At our new place, we have none, THANK GOD. Also, they multiply like crazy so if you don't have them, be careful when you visit people that do.....they tend to crawl into your bags and you will bring them back to your house!

I don't think there is a pesticide that kills them yet........sucks!

My MIL lives in Flemington and her house is basically infested. They had an exterminator come last week and he said he'd be able to reduce them by about 50%, which was fine with them.

They crawl in the house this time of year to get away from the cold. If you have tiny spaces in between your window screen and the frame, they can squeeze through. This happened quite a lot last fall when I was still living at my mom's... there was a dent in the frame of my screen so they were coming through my bedroom window. I found 2 in my underwear drawer and nearly had a heart attack :(

Ew, I know! They show up in the randomest places. Yesterday I found one in a kitchen cabinet.

There is no way to kill them... I just pick them up and flush them down the toilet. Their defense mechanism is to drop, so if you go near it, it'll just drop off the wall. There's no getting rid of them and they infest inside the house during the winter to stay warm. They don't seem to do harm, but they drive me nuts!

I used to suck them up with the dustbuster till it's full, then I just throw it out and buy a new one.....lol. Not dealing with opening it to empty it! lol

Oh my god! Hahaha! Reading what all of you have written makes me feel SOO much better about having them all over. Well, not really "better" because they still irk the shiit out of me, but at least I know that I'm in good company. :-)

Touche! :-)

Edit: Couldn't look at it spelled like that without the accent, because it looks like I was calling you a douche and just misspelled it, haha. I had to find it online with the accent and copy and paste, so DO OVER...

Touché! :-)

I feel better too knowing others have them. One decided to crash FI's b-day party a couple weeks ago, and I was kinda embarassed. Luckily someone brought up how the problem has been in the news, so I hope people didn't think it's b/c we're bad housekeepers!

This year it seems to be a pretty big problem in NJ. MH and I were watching TV in bed the other night and one flew onto the TV screen (thankfully it was only the 4th one we've had visit in the last month)... MH usually takes care of them (I'm not necessarily "scared" of them, but I don't want them to leak their "stink" onto me). So I asked him to take care of it and he had to wait until a commercial :)

My FI lives in Flemington too. The furnished basement and the first floor of the house are infested! And my dad was telling me today actually that in our attic of the "not attached" garage is infested too. Great just what I want to hear. I hate those little bastards. My sister was telling me that her exterminator for their ant problem said you can't exterminate them. So I guess our out of town "guests" are here to stay.

Edit: (had to share a cute story) When my dad was describing them as.."Dey have legs like spiders and a big stomach" in his thick italian accent because he didn't know what they were..i showed him the picture that was included in the OP. And he goes.."ah yeah yeah dose are dem. Why du you call dem stink bug." Dad I told him..Kill one..You'll find out.

i am NOT proud to know this info lol. My parents own a local produce farm in Lawrenceville NJ and the "bug guy" as i call him (researcher from Rutgers who studies pests at the local farms for Integrated Pest Management) said ther eis going to be a bad infestation from now until March. Everyone is right, they came over from Asia on cargo and the one thing known to kill them is another insect over there.
My theory: BRING THE DAMN BUG OVER! lol they are nasty. BUT, the rumor that if you smush one more will come is FALSE! i just flush em when I see them cuz even if it doesn't attract more, the smell is gross.
Again, not proud of this info. But happy to share with others equally creeped out.
OH!
they CANNOT breed indoors. so if you are finding them , its because they are finding their way in through cracks in foundation or cross spaces. breathe easy, theres no recreation in your houses! lol
