What should I do?

Fi and I met with mpw (photographers and videographers) they went over there packages etc. Their work is amazing! They quoted us 3,600 for a full day video same day edit, edit of the entire video etc. My budget was 1500! I automatically told FI no, but he says that their work has been the best he has seen etc, etc. We can not afford to go over but FI suggest cutting other things out. I don't know any suggestions.

If it includes photo album, pics and engagement setting then that is a deal!

Agree with PP'ers... if all the above mentioned re: photography is included ~ go for it! You got a deal!
    If not... I'd keep looking.
Don't be upset ~ you never know, you may find someone else you love even more!

I think that you still have more than enough time to look for others.  try looking around for a tiny bit and if you find nothing that fits the style you are looking for than try to adjust your budget to fit it in.

I think that's a lot for a video. For something you will only watch on anniversaries etc, I wouldn't spend that kind of money.

Can  you change the package to make it cheaper?  I took out the same day edit from my package and saved a ton!

I'd look into this. Do you really want all the bells and whistles? Do you absolutely have to have the same day edit? It's nice, but then again at the same time, brides for years and years have done without it and have had perfectly beautiful weddings.

That sounds really expensive for video...
  • edited December 2011
If that's just for video, that's very overpriced.  If you're going to overspend, definitely do it on the actual photography - that's the more important piece that you'll share with others and look at more often than a video you might watch on anniversaries, if that.

definitely too much for video, I would shop around more for sure. Full day coverage is also a lot....are there certain elements of the day you may be willing to just have still photographs for instead of video as well (getting ready shots or maybe the last hour of the reception)?

You should do what works for your budget.  You said that you budgeted $1500.  Was that because that's really all you can spend on it, or was that just a number you threw in because it sounded reasonable (but you have wiggle room to spend more)?  We spent around what MPW costs (without same-day edit) so the price doesn't offend me, and I'm definitely of the sometimes you have to spend more to get better quality mentality so I don't think that any number anyone could throw out would necessarily be a rip-off or overpriced to me.  We love our video and watch it every few months (and I know our parents do too), so it was definitely worth the expenditure for us.  (And I don't know that I would have been able to say the same had we booked a cheaper company whose work we were more meh on -- we probably would never watch a video we didn't love.)

But if you don't like the idea of a same-day edit, I'd definitely ask to take it out.  I went to a wedding once where we watched the same-day edit of the ceremony after the toasts, and I found it very attention-wh0ring and silly.  I mean, I just saw the ceremony so why do I need to see it again?  So I certainly wouldn't have paid for one.

If you have extra room in your budget and want to look at the higher-end videographers, I'd at least look around a little more to see the videographers in the price ranges between $1500 and $3600, to make sure you're making the most of whatever you end up spending.  MPW's videos look nice on their website, but I've seen a lot of other companies who do very similar work (so I don't think they're your only choice).

I think that is a bit much just for video. I think you can continue to look around and still find somone that you like that fits into your budget better.

I recently had the same dilemma. I looked at MPW as well as endless wave studios (which was around the same price.)  I at first planned on using the videographer that goes with my photographer but after seeing those amazing same day edits, I started thinking about it more and more.

Part of the problem is that one of my BMs is getting married next October.  Her and her FI live with his parents and literally only pay for food and cell phone bills.  They're getting married at Addison park and are using endless wave studios for photo and video.  I think part of me wanted the video so bad more for jealousy than for something I really wanted.

After talking it over with FI he suggested that when we sit down the next time with our photo and video guy, we show him examples of what we want and to see how close he can get to it.  We know it won't be cinematography, it's a wedding video, but to go from $1500 (which is what mine costs) to $3600 is just too much in my opinion.

I think for a video that's too expensive as well, but it's that much because of the SDE. I have met with MPW and love their work also, so I have a good feel for the way their pricing goes. If we book a videographer at all I don't think it will be them just because of the price (even though they do great work). We really would just want to catch it all for keepsake so we would need to find someone much less.

I also sent you a PM.

That does sound a little rich.  There are far too many video guys out there to feel you have to have this one guy even though he's outside of your budget.  You'll find another.
