Thank you cards

So today we received our thank you cards... they are waiting at the front door... lol
Ii had googled how to write wedding thank you cards before our wedding and now i actually have to write them so my question is when it came to saying thank you for cash/checks how did write it? In the search they wrote "Todd and I wanted to thank you greatly for the check you sent for a wedding gift. We are saving to buy a new car, and your gift will help us reach our goal. We can’t wait to take you for a spin around the neighborhood."
We actually aren't thinking of doing anything with our house right now... we did a lot of renovations before we moved in and for now the $ we received went into our savings. Do we say thank you for the $ and write thank for coming and so on?

I personally wouldn't say "thank you for the check" but that's just my opinion.  I instead would just say "thank you for your generous wedding gift" and then go from there on what you may plan to put it towards. Or just say "thank you for your generous wedding gift.  It was so nice to see you and we were so happy to share our most special day with you!" etc

thats what i was thinking. i rather not put thank you for the cash or check... I don't know but it feels weird to write that.

    I did,

"Thank you for coming to our wedding! We were so glad that you could be there, and we hope you had a nice time.
Thank you so much for the generous gift. We are saving to buy a home in the next year or so, and we really appreciate your kindness. We hope to see you again soon!"

If you don't have immediate plans for the money, maybe you could write something like, "Thank you for the generous gift. We really appreciate your kindness, and we are looking forward to building our new life together" or or something like that?

I wouldn't get too specific but that is just me.  Above wording was perfect since it thanks the guest for their generous gift and for sharing in your special day.

I am so dreading these TYs. ick.

Ours were nearly identical to this... except we paid off H's car so that's what we told people we planned on putting their gift toward.

I'll admit it was kind of annoying last week when I saw my aunt and she said something like "oh since we helped pay for this car it belongs to all of us hahahaha" Not funny.

I agree I wouldn't mention thank you for the cash or the check. We said Thank you for spending this special time with us and sharing in our celebration. We were so happy to have you there and it was great seeing you! Thank you for your generous gift. We really appreciate your thoughtfulness.
