Aisle runner- when does it roll out?

I want my aisle runner to be out when people arrive at the ceremony so they see how pretty it is (we have a pretty monogram in the middle).  But I dont want people to step on it and ruin it.  Plus it has glitter glue on it and I am afraid it will get all over if many people walk on it.  Do you roll it out before guests arrive?  Before BP walks down or before I walk down?

  • For our church wedding it was rolled out after the BM's but before the MOH and myself.

  • And who rolled it out for you?

  • We had the 2 non best men groomsmen rool it out right before I walked down the aisle with my dad.
  • I voted right before the bride.  Either that or right before the bridal party.  I just went to a wedding where the runner was already out when people got there, and there were already rips in it.  One of the Bridesmaids even tripped on one of the rips.

I think that guests mught even notice the monogram more if it is rolled out right before the bridal party (or the bride) comes out.  Especially since it is in the middle and not at the beginning or end of the runner :)
  • Usually, it's just before the bride and, as already stated, by two groomsmen neither of whom are the best man.

I actually decided against one.  I don't think I've ever seen it go well.  It gets tangled, doesn't unroll without difficulties, it's never straight and rarely lays flat.  It just seems more trouble than it's worth.  I don't think we'll miss it one bit.
  • We were married at the venue and it was rolled out right before DH.  So the order walking down the aisle was:

    (groomsmen were already up front)
    BMs
aisle runner rolled out with flower petals
    DH & best man
    MOH
    me

I have no idea who rolled it out - I think it was the wedding coordinator.

If you want people to see the logo, you could put up a ribbon across the last row of chairs and force guests to walk around the sides of the church/venue.  That way, they will see the logo but no one will walk on it until the BP.

  • We're going to have it rolled out before the guests arrive and then a line of tulle & flowers will section off the rows one each side so no one can step on it.
  • We did the monogram aisle runner thing as well, what I did was have the monogram painted at the bottom and so it was pulled out 3 feet or so (up by the altar) before the ceremony so guests could see it, but wouldn't be walking on it and then right before I walked out the ushers pulled it down the rest of the way (so the monogram ended up at the back of the church). It worked out well for us.
  • Wow lots of different opinions and all good ones.  Add it to my list of things to stress about that no one will remember except me lol.  I have to see if my church will let me put up a "barricade" on the aisle side.  I am going to assume no- they are sticklers and I am shocked they even allow aisle runners.  So I guess I can do it before I walk down- I like the idea of the dramatic entrance :)  And I will have the non best men roll it out.  Since most are out of town except my BIL, maybe I will make him do it so he can come to my house to practice.  hahaha.

  • We had two GMs do it that weren't the best man, and the only problem was that since it's a church, you can't turn your back to the alter, so they had to walk backwards, they were a little nervous about that.

  • Backwards? Which way does it roll?  Away from aisle or towards the aisle?  I need to see which way the monogram is.

  • I mean altar not aisle

  • Ours went from the alter to the church doors.

  • Yes... it is usually tucked up front and rolled back to you.  I found a pic:

<div>Not to hijack your post, but if it is tucked up front and rolled back, how would I show the monogram?  I am planning to paint/make my own design, so I would have to paint the end right? Confused. </div>
  • Hmmmmm. That is an excellent question. My gut tells me that you'd roll it up with your monogram in first, so it ends with it when unrolled. But then the length measurement would have to be super accurate. If that didn't work, then would it be unrolled the entire time? Not sure.

  • Mine will be before guests arrive as I want to have rose petals lined up both sides of the runner.
  • Thank you ladies. Ill check with my church before making a final decision bc im sure they have rules. But im thinking of having my cousin roll it out before i walk down. He is not in the BP but i think this would be a great way to get him involved. I may also have a little cousin walk with him to involve her too.

I wanted mine rolled out before guests arrived, but that did not happen (and I also had no idea). I went down the aisle and walked on it and that was all I knew. It wasn't until I watched my video and saw they actually rolled it out right before the flower girls went down the aisle. Our maitre d was actually the one who did it. I had no clue, and it really was not a big deal.

  • Yeah, definitely wait to have it rolled out until you are walking down. Guests will be clueless and will step all over it and most likely rip it. And I wouldn't want to risk one of the bridal party members tripping and falling on it either.

It rolls from the altar to the back of the aisle. If you want the monogram near the front where you will be standing, then you'd need to measure the aisle and have the monogram put up that far on the runner. If you want it at the end of the aisle towards the back of the church/room, then you would just print the monogram at the end of the runner.

If the church as a coordinator then they can roll it out for you. If it is at a venue, I'm assuming the Maitre'd should do that, instead of your family members or bridal party.
