Intermezzo...

Hey guys,
How do you feel about an intermezzo?  I was told that the intermezzo slows down the pace of a wedding and adds more time that the guests have to be in their seats.

I like the idea of doing an intermezzo (honestly I think I just like the word 'intermezzo') but don't know if there's anything I'm not considering... any thoughts?

I LOVE the intermezzo!  We're doing one, cause c'mon, who wouldn't want a palate cleansing sorbet!

We had a sorbet and people seemed to enjoy it, and it didn't make any difference in the flow of things.

We took that out of the package.  a waste of money, and most people don't eat it anyway.

We're not doing one because of the fact that it means more down time (as in, in their seats) for the guests.  I think it's a nice touch, but whenever I go to weddings with an intermezzo I feel like I'm in my seat forever... might just be me, though.

Love it! We have intermezzo in our package. However, we also have a "salitizer" rather than a seperate salad and appetizer - so guests don't need to stop that extra course to eat. BUT, even if we did have them all seperate I still would have intermezzo. IMO, the more you have the better. I've gone to some weddings that didn't have much food, and I felt like it was obvious their package wasn't what the general "norm" has now become in NJ. I say if it is part of your package, def. keep it. If people want to keep dancing instead of eatting that, they will. I was at one wedding this past summer and a bunch of people completely missed the appetizer and salad because they didn't want to stop dancing....they didn't care. But for those of us who did not feel like dancing and wanted to eat, we were happy to have whatever was put in front of us.

I was on the fence about it, mostly because I want my guest to have lots of fun and not feel trapped at their tables. But my event manager and mom convinced me to keep it. 1) Knocking it out wouldn't cut back my price, it's a giveaway, it hardly costs the venue anything and 2) It's actually kind of important to cleanse the palate between acidic salad dressing and the entree.

I was assured it is brought out quickly and doesn't delay the partying by a noticeable amount. And like PP said, if guests want to keep dancing and not eat it, they will.

Wasted course IMO, we traded it for an additional course of "real food"  Our courses were spaced out so people were out and about between each.

I did it because the green apple sorbet was too delish to pass up!  We actually cut out our appitizer since all options had better versions at our cocktail hour.  But we added a poached pear, cheese, and nuts to our salad to make it a bit more substatial.

I like the idea of the intermezzo but I never thought about the time it would take out of the reception. I still like the idea of it though
