I got an email this morning that our favorite priest, a long-time family friend, won't be able to make it to preside over our Nuptial Mass.  He's retiring to the west coast, and may be out of the country in the fall.  We had offered to pay his travel expenses so it's just a scheduling conflict.  I completely understand, but am really bummed out about it.  Having him celebrate the mass is something I've always anticipated.  So one of the parish priests will preside, and I know it will be special no matter who marries us.  But I'm disappointed nonetheless.

Sorry to hear that! At least you know earlier rather than later. Unfortunately some of these things you just can't anticipate.

I feel your pain!  We wanted a priest who is a friend of the family to do our ceremony.  He grew up across the street from FI's mom's family, and we wanted to use him as an honor to her (she passed away in May).  He couldn't do it because we're not getting married in a church with an active parish.  It was so disappointing. 

Instead, he's going to do a blessing for us after we're married so we're recognized by the church.  For our actual wedding, one of my girlfriends is getting ordained and doing the ceremony.  

But you're 100% right, you're wedding will be special because it's YOUR day!

Oh No ( So sorry to hear about that! I wonder if maybe you guys can incorporate him somehow into things maybe through a letter or something to be read at the reception? hmn... just trying to think of something special since he is very important to you both!
