Grand Marquis in Old Bridge

My sister is booking her wedding here...just wondering if anyone has any past experiences with them. What room did you prefer? Anything we should know? Thanks!

We went to a wedding here back in 2006 and the food was very very bad. The cocktail hour was good but the entree's were memorably awful. I don't know if it's changed since but I'd keep looking.

Definitely tell her to keep looking. You can find better for the same price or maybe even less.  Worst hall I've been to.

Being that it's right near the highway it can be very loud.  My friend was at a wedding there last weekend and during the best man's speech a tractor trailer went blazing down Route 9.  She didn't mention the food but it was especially noisy!  I would suggest keep looking and if she's still set on it than do it but just warn her!

My sister and I had an appointment there and as soon as we pulled into the parking lot we turned around and cancelled the appointment.

To this day I have no clue what it looks like on the inside, but the outside is in a crappy location (as others have said) and the parking lot is a mess (potholes and weeds all over the place).

I am actually shocked at these responses! I have heard wonderful things about it there and it has been redone recently. She wants to stay in the Monmouth County area.

There are many many better places in Monmouth County than there- and possibly even more affordable.

Yeah my friend just went to a wedding there & she said they started vacuuming in the other room during speeches so it was really hard to hear people. Also I've seen pictures taken there & they look really bad -- the lighting isn't very good there. It depends how much she is looking to spend -- I had my wedding at the Molly Pitcher & the food & service was beyond excellent. They also have adults who are the servers (most people hirer teens) & as a result everyone felt like their service was very good & not rushed at all.

Molly Pitcher is right overlooking the river in Red Bank, NJ. I had my ceremony there & did it on a Sunday because on Sunday I was the only wedding & could choose any time. They also lowered my minimum to 100 guests. In total we spent 14k for everything which included the ceremony, the reception, the cake, our overnight accommodations at the hotel, all the taxes & gratuities (the price per head includes tax + gratuity + wedding cake + overnight accommodations, you only need to tip the maitre'd). We had 100 guests.

She is willing to spend up to about $125 a person. It also has to be a Sat.night...I think the Molly Pitcher is out of that budget for a Saturday.
Again, though I have to say I am surprised by the bad reviews here. Everywhere else I have looked have given the place amazing reviews.

What about the Freehold Radison?  THat will definitely be in your budget and I have heard good things about it.  Also try the English Manor, I'm not sure if they are in your budget but I think it's close.

I looked at the Grand Marquis and was not so impressed. I ended up booking at the Crystal Ballroom at the Radisson in Freehold. Their prices start at $119 including gratuity for a Saturday night, so that seems to be in her budget. I would check the Crystal Ballroom out if she hasn't already, everyone has been great to work with so far and I have heard nothing but good things about the place from talking to people who have had their wedding/attended a wedding there. The cocktail hour in particular seems to be a huge hit with everyone I speak to, and the room itself is gorgeous. The minute I walked in the ballroom and saw the high ceilings and huge chandeliers I knew this was the place for me. The pictures online do not do the place justice! Plus, the hotel is attached so you don't have to worry about transporting any guests around.

I've been to events at Crystal Point -- the food is so-so & the hotel attached is gross looking -- I would not ask my guests to stay there. The outside leaves something to be desired. The rooms are fine, but the food is your standard wedding food -- nothing that really impressed me.

The Crystal Ballroom is not the same as Crystal Point just to clarify.

I have been to the grand marquis and remember the experience being nice.  I like the dome room, I remember the service being a bit better than the usual (servers packing up extra food to go,etc).  It wasn't over the top, but was a decent place for what it cost.

I've been the crystal point too, nice cocktail hour, decent food.  Hotel is hit or miss depending on expectations but it worked for us and was a close cabride to point pleasant to hit the bars after the wedding!

The Crystal Point is in Point Plesant, the Crystal Ballroom is in Freehold. I was referring to the Crystal Ballroom in Freehold. I have also heard the rooms at the Crystal Point were disgusting and the venue is a bit dated. The Crystal Ballroom is only two years old, and the hotel was renovated two years ago as well.
