How old is too old?

What do you think is the upper limit on how old a flower girl can be?

Just curious what everyone else thinks.  I have no idea really!

I think once she gets to being around 9, she's getting to be too old. I think 3 or 4 to about 7 or 8 is ideal (with 3 and 8 pushing it...even though my girl will be 3).

I think 9-10 they're a bit too old and can do something else, like a program attendant.  My FG was just a little over two, but she was adorable!

I think about 8 or 9. Mine is 3. She's my niece so I definitely wanted her to be my FG. I'm a little worried about her wanting to stick with my dad (her grandpa has her spoiled!).

It's so cute...not to long ago she told my sister she needed a pretty dress so she can marry Uncle Josh. haha.

I think 8-9 is the upper limit for flower girl. Anything above this should probably be a junior bridesmaid or not an attendant.

My flower girl is 5 1/2 years old.

My cousin who's 8 (she'll be 9 when we get married) is really excited about being a flower girl.  The moment she heard we were getting married she announced that she is a flower girl in our wedding...::insert awkward turtle::  We're not having a flower girl.

I think 6-7 is the upper limit for "cute" flower girl or ring bearer age.  But evidently kids can be excited about it when they're older.

My MOH was a flower girl when she was 14, the other flower girl was 3, she says it was the most awkward experience of her adolescence.

I think I'm with everyone else and about 9 you are pushing it. I'm not having a flower girl, but I probably would optimally choose someone around 4-5 if I could.

I agree with pp on the age-- max around 9-10, but prime "cute range" is a bit younger. If you personally don't mind having a flower girl that's a bit on the older side, make sure you consider pirategal's point first, about how the girl herself might feel. At a certain age she wouldn't want to be thought of as a little girl anymore and would probably be embarrassed (she wants to seem all cool and grown-up! haha). Also, if you don't really have anyone at the "right" age to ask, don't forget you can always forgo the flower girl role! : )

I agree with everyone. If they are older than 8, I would consider having a junior bridesmaid. I was a junior bridesmaid in my aunt's wedding when I was 9 or 10, don't quite remember. My flower girl will be 5 and my ring bearer, her brother, will be almost 3.

We had my 9 yr old cousin in the wedding and let her choose if she wanted to be a flower girl or jr bridesmaid.  She chose jr BM.  So if you have someone you want to include in the wedding and the age is questionable maybe just let them choose.

    Nope.

I think it was thoughtless of her mother planting the idea in my cousin's head. (I'm pretty sure this is what happened based on many other clues)  And I think that FI and I shouldn't have to change what we want because of that.  We never intended to have any children in the wedding, we never said anything to my cousin or her mother that would indicate that my cousin would be a flower girl.  When my cousin started looking through my bridal magazines and picking out "her flower girl dress" I said to her mother "Aunt, we're not planning to have children as part of our wedding party, no flower girl, no ring bearer.  Children are welcome to attend as guests." Then I bean-dipped her and I left it at that.  I don't know what she told her daughter after that.

haha yeah that's just weird.  I can't imagine being asked to be a flower girl when I was in high school.
