Ordained in NJ?

I think this has been asked before but I feel like my brain is fried these days and I cant remember.  I live in NY but I'm getting married in NJ - can someone be ordained in NJ to perform the wedding ceremony?  We are having such a hard time finding an officiant we like and we are considering asking one of FIs family members to perform the ceremony.  Has anyone done this?  Is it a hassle?  TIA

I ordained my bother at univerasal life church.  It was super easy.  According to everything I read and heard its now legal for him to perform our ceremony and sign as officiant.

Yes, a lot of organizations are nationally affiliated.

I did this once, as a friend wanted me to do her civil union ceremony.
So I went through the whole process.... but later she changed her mind. She thought some people might have a hard enough time as it is viewing a gay marriage as real :eye roll: so she didn't want it to look like her best friend was up there marrying them just for fun... she wanted people to take it more seriously. I understood completely, and happily acted as her "best person" instead.

I used Universal Life Church: http://www.themonastery.org/
