I brought my engagement ring to get polished and they charged me $75. What have you guys paid in the past? It seems high to me so I'm curious. Also, where do you bring it?
Mine is platium. I was shocked when they charged me and then shocked again when they said $75. We had got it polished at the place where he bought my ring so I thought they would do it for free. I need to look for a good place in NJ!
FI bought lifetime re-sizing and repolishing with ring so its included whenever i want - that seems like a lot considering the plan he got wasnt all that much extra.

Our jewelry store will steam clean mine and re-dip it for free. The re-dip is part of the care plan we purchsed, but the steam clean is complimentary to anyone.
My rings are also platinum. I take it to the place in the Diamond District that a lot of jewelers use for polishing (I got the recommendation from a friend of a friend who works in the area -- her store only does steam cleaning). It is an extremely bizarre experience through and through, but they charge $6 a ring and are trustworthy.
If I took them to the place where my engagement ring was purchased, polishing would be free -- no care plan or anything required. (Not worth the trip though because that's an hour plus away from where I live.) My mom's jeweler also polishes my rings for free because he knows her, so sometimes I'll take them there when I'm in the area. I got them polished for free at the jeweler by the second floor escalators at the Bridgewater Mall once too. $75 is highway robbery!
Uppereast - Where do you bring it in the diamond district? I work in mid town so that would be very convenient for me. I just never know which ones are trustworthy. I'm always afraid that they will switch the diamond or something! When they polish it, they take out all of the scratches, right? (I just want to make sure its the same thing that they did for mine). I'm def not making the hike to long island again to go to the place where DH got my ring and pay that price!
Again, it is a bizarre experience. The atmosphere is definitely... interesting. Not unsafe, and not untrustworthy, but a little shady (I guess all of the Diamond District kind of is though). And I'd bring a magazine or book or something for while you wait because they usually have weird tv on and it can take 15-20 minutes. They do good work though and are nice.
And yup, polishing gets rid of all the scratches. Makes my rings look like new!
Ours is going to do it for free. Before I left when I picked up my wedding band, they said don't forget to come in and get your ring re-polished and cleaned. Whenever I've gone there in the past as well, they've always cleaned it for free. That seems crazy to charge that!
