Using a DJ for the ceremony

I am getting married in the same place the reception is taking place, and the cost to  have live musicians for the ceremony isn't really in my budget. I don't like the idea of using the DJ, seems a little tacky to me, but they gave me a really good price.

Anyone use a DJ for their ceremony? I was told them can hide the DJ booth behind a screen during the ceremony so that they aren't seen. The ceremony is going to be extremely quick, so I'm leaning towards this option but wanted to get feedback from those who have done it before.

I did this and wasn't so sure either, but in the end it worked out well. We wanted non traditional music for our processional and recessional, and more contemporary music beforehand. He also provided the microphone and speakers. He was in the back and no one saw him. It was fine.

We are having our DJ for the ceremony as well. Like PP we aren't doing traditional "ceremony" music, so we'll get a really nice selection prepared. It's not going to be a flashy setup, so it will be really nice and honestly refreshing from the usual ceremony music.

I plan on doing the same.  I'm also having my ceremony at the reception venue and it will be quick, 20 minutes not religious or anything. 

When my DJ first mentioned it I was like "eeehhh thats weird" but he made a good point... NO ONE will remember the violinists you pay $500 for to play for 20 minutes. 

Think about weddings you've been to... do you notice where the music is coming from?  I know I never do!  It could be an ipod for all I'd know!

Having the DJ at my ceremony was something I requested right away. I want some fun, different music at my wedding...i'm not a traditional bride!

we are doing the same thing for the same reason!  it will be unique and more personal!

We did this, it was fine.  The DJ was out of the way and no one missed live musicians.

We are also using a DJ for our ceremony. We do not want traditonal music at all. Something about the Muppets' "Somebody is Getting Married" performed by a quartet does not seem right.

We did the same thing.  However ask your venue if they can pip in music which can also work.

I see this all the time at my ceremonies.  The setup for the ceremony is usually much simpler than for the reception, and your dj can take care of sound for your officiant if your venue doesn't provide it.

We are doing the same thing as well.  My ceremony will be short and I do not want the traditional wedding intro songs.  I also went to a wedding last week that did the same thing.  Everyone was paying attention to the party entering I don't even remember noticing the DJ.  I think it will be just fine!  Lots of people are doing that these days.
