***Sherri*** Re: Blue Nile

I know your rings are from Blue Nile and I posted awhile back asking about where I could get a good cleaning for my Blue Nile e-ring because most stores will only do a quick polish since they don't want to be held accountable for any potential damage that could occur.  I think the only feedback I really got was to just go into the mall and hope for the best at any of the various jewelry stores.

However, I contacted Blue Nile the other day because I really want my e-ring to get cleaned and inspected and to have the prongs tightened before my wedding and they said they do all of that free of charge.  I'm not sure why I didn't know that and why they never sent FI information about it when they sent him the ring to begin with, but I was thrilled when they told me.

In case you didn't know about it either, all you have to do is call their customer service number, set up the "appointment" and specify exactly what you want done, and then ship it to them.  It sucks only because you have to pay to have it shipped to them, but everything else is free and if you do it just once every 6 or 12 months it's really not that big a deal.

Just wanted to let you know in case you've been as clueless as I have!  :-)

I would be curious about the turn around time?  Sounds like it could be at least a week maybe 2 without the ring.  Also, I would be concerned about sending such a valuable item in the mail....insured or not, and how much would the insurance be?

Did you go to a jeweler and inquire?  They may charge a small fee but most will do this.  What kind of damage are you referring to?

I go to a small jewlery store that is local to me. My e-ring is a family ring from DH's family and my wedding band was custom made by this store. They clean and check both of my rings whenever I go in without any issue. I wouldn't go to a Kay or a Jareds to get my ring cleaned because maybe they have a liability issue but there are great stores around. Additionally like what User said I wouldn't want to send my rings in the mail every year or be without them for so long.

No damage... just basic wear and tear.  I've gone into about 10 different jewelry stores (both chain and regular family-owned stores) and all have said that they will not do anything other than a quick polish with me standing there watching because the ring isn't theirs.  I offered to pay and they all still refused.  I pretty much did everything but get down on my knees in the middle of their stores and beg... and they all still refused for liability reasons.

The turn around time is fine - I already checked with them and they have amazing customer service, so I'm not concerned about that.  And it's insured for the full amount.

Thanks for letting me know! I know when I had to have mine resized to ship it back to Blue Nile I paid $50 to have it be insured and secured (basically under lock and key the entire time it was in the hands of the USPS). Not sure if that's comparable to what a jewler would charge if you did find one to clean it but that's great to know they'll do it free of charge. Thanks for the update!

I CANNOT believe you are under a month already!!! So excited for you!

Oh wow!  Haha... your ring must be worth more than mine!

I can't believe I'm under the one-month mark either!  Things have been absolutely crazy (family drama) but other than that I'm beyond excited about the wedding!!!  I'm so glad you're still around since you and only a handful of others from when I first joined TK are still here... everyone else disappeared!

Just for your information, my rings are also from Blue Nile, but we had my ering appraised at George Press (Livingston, NJ) and they did a great job cleaning it.  The woman there was extremely nice, so it may be worth checking out, too.

Good to know - thanks so much!  Do you know if they do it for you only because you had it appraised there?

If you look under services on their website, it says they do repair (including resetting of loose stones) and professional cleaning.  Since my cleaning was done as part of the appraisal, I have no idea what the cost is, but it looks like they will do cleaning of jewelry.  At least worth a call if you ever need to have it done and don't want to send the ring back to Blue Nile.

    The site also says:
"Our two, in-house, master craftsmen are always ready to provide you with a complimentary cleaning, adjustment, repair or a custom created masterpiece."

So, I don't know if the 'professional' cleaning is different than the 'complimentary' cleaning (or if they are the same).
