Inviting Co-workers?

I'm struggling with whether or not to invite my co-workers.  I work in a department with 8 other people, which I would all invite with a guest as they're all married or dating someone serious (so 16 people).  We're already way over our number of people we wanted to invite to begin with.  BUT, one of the co-workers is getting married next month and I just got invited to his wedding.  Now I feel like I have to invite him and if I do that, I'll have to invite everybody else in the department.  Thoughts?  Advice?  Thanks!

Only invite those that you see socially outside of work. You don't need to invite any of them if you can't fit/ afford to.

I went back and forth on this a lot too.  I am close with many co-workers and even went to one of their weddings years ago.  But, like PP said, I only ended up inviting those I see socially outside of work.  Otherwise I couldn't find an end to the inviting!

I only invited two girls that I'm especially close with. I work in a small department of 4 (including me) but we're part of an even larger department of like 130! There's no way I could invite everyone.

I only invited 4 people I work with, and 2 of them are married, so it ended up only being 6 people total.

Also don't forget that you have to invite way more than you want to come because about 20-30% say no. We had a 27% rejection rate.

I wouldn't say that's a good strategy honestly. We've had people who we wrote off as not coming say they are coming. Only invite as many people as you can afford to/want to host.

Sorry but that's bad advice. You have to plan for 100% attendance.

I work for a small company (5 in the office) and I wound up inviting everyone (plus S/O) because there was only one person who I wouldn't have invited and I felt bad about it.

I didn't invite coworkers.  Then again I wasn't really close with any of them.

I went back and forth with this as well.  I have 7 coworkers, 4 of them married.  I ended up deciding to invite all of them.  (turns out only 3 are attending, and one spouse).
