Rent a house for wedding

Has anyone had a luck finding a nice estate/villa/large home to rent for the night or weekend for a wedding? I've looked on homeaway and vrbo.com but it's really limited for homes in NJ. We want something on or near water, large enough to move the party indoors in case it's bad weather with updated, open floor layout and nice outside grounds. Any suggestions??? Thanks!!

  • I'm not sure where you are looking but you might call real estate agents in the area to help you out.
  • Thanks. I have called a few and they said they will call me if they think of a location but most say it's hard to rent a house for just an evening or weekend. I figured if someone already knew of a home, they could better direct me. I'm looking basically anywhere in NJ but prefer the shore areas.
  • Hey RDN, I was wondering if you found a venue. I have the same idea in mind for my wedding! Let me know what you ended up doing, if anything! :)

I know there's bonnet island and places like that but they are super expensive. Maybe try vacation homes down the shore.
  • I had a similar idea and found this house that's available for wedding rentals. It's located in Beach Haven but not on the water. From the photos I'm not sure if it would be large enough to hold the reception indoors incase of rain, but its worth a look. http://www.vrbo.com/321438

  • Make sure whoever you rent the home from knows it will be used for a big party. You will probably need some kind of insurance at a guess.
  • You would probably need to rent it for more than one night, at least a weekend. And I would look into doing it in the off-season as most vacation rentals want a one week minimum. But I def think you should be able to find a gorgeous vacation home to use for a wedding. Look in towns like Cape May, Spring Lake, and Long Beach Island.
  • i did some searching - this house looks amazing. You could do your ceremony on the front patio overlooking the beach:

Oh that house  is so beautiful! I don't trust some of my guests haha but this is the perfect idea for a crowd with non-rowdy guests.
