Average DJ cost in NJ? Help please; Wedding in November

Hi ladies,

Can anyone give me an average cost for a DJ (5-hour reception; actually 1 hour cocktail, so that wouldn't count would it?) in NJ?

Any suggeestions and advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks so much and happy planning!  :o)

Our DJ was under $1100 for 4 hours...I believe cocktail hour was another $100.  We LOVED him.  Bob Albrecht from Fantasy DJs... www.fantasydjs.com He was really really great.  He was also on the lower end for price, at least as far as other girls have posted for their prices.

We did our own cocktail music to save money- we made cds to do over ther Bose sound system.  Our DJ is a bit more than the above one because he is doing uplighting and taping key parts to show during our wedding and making us a mini video.  He does an amazing job with this, all my friends used him, ask for Vito.

We used the same guy as Chelsea (Bob Albrecht) and really liked him. We only had him for the four-hour reception, no cocktail hour, and paid maybe $1000-1100 including a tip. I didn't even notice what the hall did for the cocktail hour music.

We're using Frank Albunia from Digital Entertainment $900 for the reception.  I've been to a wedding that he did once before and he was great, did everything that you'd want from a DJ, played his music, minimal talking only when necessary and that's it!

We're using Bob Albrect too.  $1,345.00 for ceremony, cocktail hour and 4 hour reception.  That's for Bob as emcee with one assistant, no lighting or giveaways or anything.  Without the ceremony and cocktail hour included, it would have been $250 less.  Those were optional add-ons to the package.

We are having a 5 hour reception plus 1 hour cocktail hour.  For the cocktail hour our DJ is providing us with a violinist and during the reception we are having a percussionist that will play along side the DJ during certain songs. We also are having uplighting and monogram on the dance floor.  With all of that we are paying 3,500.

Ours was $1600 - but we added lighting (moving lights) and some uplighting as well. When we were looking at DJs we decided that personality was just as, if not more, important as price. We loved our DJ - he helped me put together a mix for my brother and I to dance to and he knew our venue inside and out. We used Ultimate entertainment DJs.
