MOB Dress

How long in advance did you order Mother of the bride dresses? I am 3 months and 2 weeks away and My mom still wants to hold off on getting a dress. I'm so frustrated. She wants to order one but dont places normally take months!? or do mob dresses come in faster than bm dresses?

Did  or will your mom order from bridal boutique or buy at macys, lord & taylor, etc?

What about grandma? Did she order from bridal boutique or buy at macys, lord & taylor, etc?

Is she waiting for something specific? My moms took 3-4 months to come in.

Grandma 1 bought from a department store Grandma 2 made her own.

no she is self conscience about trying them on, she wants to lose more weight. I told her to order big and take it in at the end. She is being extremely difficult. I am NOWHERE near a bridezilla and I am telling her in the nicest of ways we need to go and she says I'm being "bossy".

My mother bought 3 dresses from Nordstrom and Macy's and decided on the one she would keep last night- from Nordstrom. FMIL bought hers today at Macy's, after searching for nearly a month for a dress. Neither were interested in ordering from a bridal boutique because they didn't want to wear a traditional MOB dress.

They both want to wait. FMILis more easy going...My mom wont even decide on a color. She asked if she could wear black!? In July?

It might be too late to order one unless you can find somewhere that can order it quickly.  They told my mother and grandmother that their dresses would take about 3-4 months.  They both came in about 3 months.

It depends on what she has in mind. My mom ordered hers at the Macy's bridal department back in November and we are still waiting for it to come in! It better get here soon. My mom looked for a while and didn't want the traditional MOB dress which was very hard to find. I'm having the same problem with FMIL. She thinks she has all the time in the world to find something or wants to just buy something off the rack but that's not as easy as she may think.

My mother ended up ordering; it took about a month and a half but that's b/c the manufacturer had the dress, right size & color, in stock.

"she is self conscience about trying them on, she wants to lose more weight"

My mother was putting off trying on dresses b/c she's never worn a formal gown :-/ so I was dealing with the same frustration. She wouldn't even try them ON.

We were out one day & I dragged her into a store, forced her (nicely) to let me choose a couple for her to "just see what you MIGHT like" & she ended up surprising herself... she found her dress (we were still able to comparison shop & order at another store).

Can you tell your mom you want her to get an idea what style she'd like so you two can shop/look online/ask about ording & maybe get her to try a few on to humor you? When I made it less of a serious outing/endeavor (or tried to make it feel that way!) my mom relaxed & finally put a darned dress on!

My mom got hers on a random trip to Macy's last summer.

I don't have a FMIL so that didn't factor into the situation, but I would've just asked them to agree on a formality if we'd run into a situation like this one. And I don't know where my grandmother got hers ... I haven't even seen it yet.

Black is fine for anytime of year.

My mom ordered hers in the beginning of January and it just came in. They did tell her it would be at least 3 months though, it was just early. I would get on it ASAP. My mom was the same way, with wanting to lose more weight, but I told her she needs to order it and we can deal with taking it in later. It took her a few weeks and she kept going back to one dress, and that's what she ordered

my mom was putting off ordering hers for the longest time...and finally ordered it 6 weeks out...from mother's dresses in hawthorne...they were great and the dress came in really quickly and it was altered and everything on time....
i guess you just have to make sure that the dress that's picked out can be rush ordered....i don't even think my mom had to pay extra, but some places do charge extra for the rush

(edit to fix months to weeks...she ordered it 6 WEEKS out, not months...months is plenty of time....guess i wasn't awake yet..)

I would explain to her that if she doesn't order now, she's going to have to get something off the rack. I would also tell her that you're going to tell FMIL that she can go ahead and pick so she doesn't end up with the same problem. If your mom is anything like mine, that will get her moving. ;-)

ETA: To actually answer your question, I think my mom ordered 6 months out? Keep in mind your mom will also need to factor in time for alterations!
