    Not that I think I'm exempt from catching it, but I've never gotten a reg. flu shot and never gotten the flu. Why start with this one?

    that's what i thought... until so many kids at my accounts died and scared me (i work on college campuses).  i haven't had the flu since 2000 and that was the same year i got the flu shot too.  figured it was time to stop pressing my luck (and it was free).

    As a preggo my dr. basically made me get both..the reg and the swine shot.

    Wait... the year you got the flu, you got the flu shot? That would def. encourage me not to get it again. No?

    For the past two years I have gotten the regular flu shot, only because work offers it.  I refuse to get a shot that hasn't been fully tested, I don't care what the FDA says.

    marni - your doc can't make you get any shot!  My doc tried to press both on me, and even told me, "1 out of 25 pregnant women who get swine flu DIE!!" I don't trust any type of flu shot.  I'll take my chances.  They haven't even tested the swine flu shot on pregnant women!

    well the didn't "make" me but they did really make me fee like I should get it because they may not have it in a month or so.

    Well I only just got the regular flu shot 2 weeks ago, and I know I have to wait if I want to get H1N1.  I don't think I've gotten the flu shot since I was a kid.  But being that my wedding is this coming January, I need to do everything I can to try and stay healthy for my wedding during flu season!

    Something about a brand new vaccination makes me nervous for the time being. I am not prone to illness (nock on wood!!!)  I did get a regular flu shot because it was free when I got my physical. I think I've gotten them for the past three years. FYI- I have never had the flu in my life (again, nocking on that wood!)

    it has been tested.  it's just a new strand, just like the 'regular' flu every year that millions get.  it is not 'new' in that sense at all.  there is a lot of useful info on CDC; don't always believe everything you hear.  side-effects are possible from any vaccination. 

    you cannot get the flu from the flu shot as there are MANY strands of flu; just one shot with the most common each year.  there however is only one swine flu that this vaccine does indeed protect against. 

    (but you're right jaimelody that my mind told me f'it in terms of getting any shots until now bc of that coincidence... but this time it hit a bit closer to home since i work with people whose students died).

    I got the seasonal flu shot about a month ago.  I asked my doctor if she recommended the H1N1 vaccination and she said, "NO WAY".  She thought it was too new and not thoroughly tested.  She wasn't going to receive it.  I alsready felt that way, but having a medical professional agree, firmed up my opinion.

    Food for thought.

    my contact is in the medical field as an epidemiologist, so yah, this firmed up my opinion to YES.
