Bridal Portrait Locations?

My original idea was to take them inside a hotel.  Not sure which one.  My photographer said that sometimes they charge a fee and some don't let you take them there at all.

I am going for an elegant maybe vintage vibe.  But I'm not stuck on that.  I like different.

Does anyone have any great suggestions on other locations?  I'm in Charlotte.  We are getting married on the lake so I was trying to stay away for that area if it helps.

Has anyone done the hotel thing?  Did you pay a fee?

Any help would be great!  Thanks!

I haven't done mine, but I'm getting married at the Bellamy Mansion here in Wilmington and they do charge outside people to take their portraits at the mansion if you aren't getting married there.

So if you don't want to pay a fee, you may have to think outside the box of where other people wouldn't think to take their portraits because other places may have decided they can make a quick buck out of charging for portrait sessons. So I wouldn't be surprised if most fancy hotels do charge you.

Do you have an arboretum in Charlotte? That's another place I'm looking to take my portraits, but you will have to pay the admission fee on that one.

I bet the Charlotte ladies will be able to help you a lot more than I can!

How about south end area, outside?  By the railroad and older buildings.  That is a vintage look and some people have pictures taken there.  Or on Queens campus?  In the Myers Park area with all the trees?  Not sure if you are going for outside, but atleast you know no one can charge you :)

Yes! Thank you NC Bride Bio! It's "dontworrylover".  I don't know if she hangs out here much anymore, but you could send her a PM or page her to ask!

I recently had engagement pictures taken in Charlotte.  There are several great places.  The Charlotte Botanical Gardens charges $150 to take pictures, which isn't bad...but I was thinking more along the lines of FREE.  I think Freedom Park is another great location.  I actually had mine done at Longview Country Club..which was beautiful.  There is a beautiful silo on the course and fabulous lakes.  I doubt they open up the course for public use since it's a private club, but my photographer (who works for the Charlotte Observer) did a story on the club so they let her use it.  If you are looking for a photographer, I would highly recommend Laura-Chase McGehee (lc.mcgehee@gmail.com).  She has extensive experience in family photojournalism and really listened to what we wanted. Very affordable too, $100 an hour plus travel, etc...great work and has learned about some really awesome lesser known locations while working with the newspaper.  If anyone is interested in using laura-chase, please feel free to contact me and I will put the two of you in touch.
