    I have 14 in the bridal party and I have to have everything just so.

    If I didn't have it in a church I wouldn't think it was necessary. Our priest however needed everything to be in order, so we had to have one. If for whatever reason we couldn't have it, and our priest didn't freak out, I wouldn't have sweat it though.

    I agree with Allie -- I think in a church it is more necessary than a venue ceremony.  I would have had a rehearsal dinner no matter what because I think that's nice for the bridal party and family, but the rehearsal itself isn't all that important.  If I hadn't been able to have my rehearsal the night before our wedding, I would have skipped it because I wouldn't want to inconvenience our wedding party (almost all of whom had to travel at least an hour and a half each way to get to the wedding, and many of whom had to travel much more than that) to have to make the trek more than once.

    We planned on having one but the minister didn't show due to a miscommunication and an emergency. We practiced walking in and out by ourselves. It wasn't really needed. Everything went smooth the day of without it.

    We had a non-church ceremony that what a little different from the norm but still fairly short, and I actually was glad we did a quick run through.  Things ran much smoother.  For instance, we did a sand ceremony and had music play during it.  It was good just to figure out where everyone should stand, where and how we should stand - we stood facing each other with our officient in the center - we didn't want to have our backs turned to the guests. When we did the ceremony, where should we stand at the table and where should our officiant go? It just works out the little kinks so things work smoothly.  It only took 15 minutes.

    I went to a non-church ceremony where they obviously did not have a run through.  This was an expensive affair, but there were some awkward moments where the music did not start at the right time and other little things.

    I felt like we needed it and so glad that we did it.  Having our ceremony in a very public place was a little hectic so already knowing where we needed to go and what to do, help things run smoothly.

    For most ceremonies held at a venue, the B & G usually hire a group of musicians or their DJ to do the music for the ceremony.    I have never ever seen these people come to the rehearsals.  That being said the deal with the music not starting at the right moment would not be fixed with a rehearsal IMO.

    Thank you for the insights into the rehearsals.  I have a question.. who is responsible for paying for the rehearsal dinner?  Is it the B&G?  Just want to be sure to figure this expense in.  I know I would like to have one because of the family/bridal party factor but also would like to make sure everyone is where they are supposed to be for the ceremony.  LOL

    keep all the great advice coming.  I need all the help I can get!

    Well, the B&G are always responsible for paying for whatever no-one else volunteers to pay for, regardless of what the tradition is.  But traditionally, the parents of the groom host and pay.
