Flowers by.... Shop Rite...????

We are at (actually way overdo for) the floral part of the wedding planning process.

We are not doing floral centerpieces.... having a beach wedding & doing candles & shells for centerpieces.

Our mom's don't want corsages, just as personal preference.

So, all we really need are my bouquet, my MOH's bouquet, and boutonnières for FI, his best man, and our dad's.

A friend suggested we look into Shop Rite for the flowers, as that’s what she did and saved a bunch of money and was happy with the results.

Part of me is super intriqued, and even asked at my local Shop Rite if they do wedding bouquets, which they said they do.

But then there is this teeny little piece of me that would be so embarrassed if someone were to say "You bouquet is lovely! Who did it?" And I have to answer "Shop Rite".

Thoughts? Opinions? Experiences? Feedback?

I'll be completely honest... a few months ago I was at Shoprite with my mom and saw this GORGEOUS bouquet of jumbo pink gerber daisies for $8 bucks (for 10 stems). So I thought, $8 bucks, if they die in 3 days no big deal.

    They lasted 2 weeks.

For Valentine's day FI sent me gerbers from proflowers which I imagine were $60+ with shipping etc. and they died in less than a week.

doubt anyone would ask..and would you really care- you saved $ you put towards other things...

I looked into Whole Foods b/c I love their flowers, but I didn't love the lady. I wouldn't mind using Shop Rite flowers, but the one near me I HATE the flowers at so I would never haha. Of course each has their own florist so some are bound to be better than others. If it's what you want and love, don't be embarrassed! I went with my gut and decided that using a grocery store wasn't for me (she was very weird with delivery and such)

I only think people would ask because I have so many friends who just got engaged and are all ready on me for rec's about other things....

And I really don't care toooo much.... like I said, just a teeny little bit about what people might think. (Like my soon~to~be~SIL who was bridezilla to the max and probably spent on flowers alone what we are spending on the whole wedding.)

But you are right, who really cares.

I'd also look into Wegman's- I know a couple girls that have used them and their floral staff is always excellent.

Friends of ours got married a few years ago, and when we got engaged the wife said off the bat, "Get your centerpieces from Shop Rite! They look great and you'll save SO much money."

I went to a florist just to get an idea of prices - AW Flowers in Kearny - and since I got a good price in our meeting I signed the contract and gave the deposit right there, because flowers were something I wanted to knock off the list ASAP. If I'd had the patience to comparison-shop, or if I'd felt like AW"s quote was too high, a supermarket would've been my next stop. I was mainly just lazy, lol.

People who'd scoff at you for Shop Rite flowers would probably be the same snobby whackos who'd turn up their nose because you bought store-brand cream cheese instead of Philadelphia. As long as the service is good and the end product is nice, who really gives a shiit where it came from? I would be willing to bet that most people would say, "Oooh, what a great idea!" if they asked where your flowers came from. If they are asking about it then they obviously like the final product ... why should Shop Rite vs. Fancy Expensive Florist make a difference?

If you've gotten a good recommendation, why not? Maybe buy a bouquet from there before you book and see how it lasts as a gauge?

If someone told me my bouquet was fabulous and it was from Shop-Rite, I'd feel no embarrassment at all. They complimented it before they knew where it was from. (Besides, unless they plan events, most people don't know names of event florists -- I doubt they'd know if they should be impressed or not by "Stephanie from Floral Expressions" or "Connie Riemer".) I totally feel a victory when I get a "I love your dress, where is it from?" and the answer is something like "Old Navy." Cheap chic is still chic!

One concern though is that they probably don't deliver so you'd have to have someone pick them up, during store hours, the day of, and distribute them. That may be complicated if you're all tied up at a salon, or if the boys are getting ready somewhere far from where the girls are, or if the wedding is on an early timetable. And I'd at the very least price out some of the cheaper but popular event florists -- they may not be that much more expensive, the logistics would be easier, and you may get more peace of mind because you'd be their priority that day.

Funny you mention this, I was there recently and as I was food shopping, I received a call that one of my close friends just had her baby - so I ran back to their flowers and took some pretty flowers and used a vase I had at home & it looked fabulous - I didn't even care that's where it came from.

I don't think that DH, anyone in our immediate families, or I, have ever bought someone else flowers that WEREN'T from a supermarket or one of those small corner grocery stores. They're cheaper and oftentimes better than the flowers from our local florists.

I find that the flowers I get from my shopright often live longer then the flowers I get from an expensive florist. You can't beat that!

I dated a guy in college who worked at a florist, and he told me that the flowers at supermarkets were delivered from florist shops. He said they are exactly the same thing, just cheaper.

Regardless of whether or not you would feel embarassed ( though you shouldn't), A LOT of people asked me who I used. It is not all that uncommon.

On a side note, I occasionally purchase flowers/arrangements from Shop Rite and they are fine. I would def ask to see a trial though....don't know if they will do it--you may have to purchase it but it's definitely worth a try.

I wouldn't give it any thought so long as you like what they put together. A suggestion for another option - I found this website called fiftyflowers.com - they have awesome pre-made bouquets and centerpeices. I am considering using them as I am trying to cut costs on the flowers.

Don't be embarassed at all if they ask. Just answer with "believe it or not, the florist at shop-rite did it and I agree that they did a great job" If they look good, you may actually give a few women some tips on how to save on flowers!

DH has bought me flowers from Shop Rite plenty of times and I'm glad! Why would I want him to spend twice as much to buy them somewhere else?

I buy all of the flowers for the prom court from Shop Rite every year and save a ton. They look nice too.

I am totally into this, but the website doesn't show anything like wedding flowers. Do I need to go in person to get an idea?
