Fine China

How many place settings did you order?

I can't decide if I should go with 10 (5 piece settings) or 12 or more?

Also, did you request other pieces from the collection?

I did 12, and would suggest that.  I also got a bunch of the serving platters, salt and pepper shakers, casserole dish.

i asked for 12 place settings of my china, but got 15, I returned the 3 and bought some of the serving pieces, my MIL bought me the rest of the serving pieces the other day, so my set is complete

I have always heard 8 is too little 12 is too many. Unless you have a big family. I would get 10.  Extra stuff would be like service dishes and sugar bowl and creamer.

What pattern are you getting. We love pics.

The woman who helped us at the store suggested registering for 12, because (according to her) people probably won't buy all of them so you may actually end up with 8 or 10 *shrug*

This was actually for casual dinnerware. I also put some serving pieces on the registry but not from the same set, just neutral/coordinating stuff.

We were on the fence about registering for fine china, but my grandma gave me a set of china (nothing horribly fancy, just something nicer than everyday dishes) so we just decided to keep hers for if we ever host a nice-ish dinner.

Registered for 10 and all the serving dishes/accessories (platter, butter dish, creamer, sugar bowl, etc.). Received everything except the sugar bowl, which I'll buy. I knew I'd get everything though as it's a "thing" in my family for the mom and close relatives to finish the set.

I didn't receive any of the crystal though. I think because it was relatively expensive so people probably felt silly giving one or two glasses when they could buy something that seemed more substantial for the same amount.

I registered for 10, only because I already had 8 place settings of a very basic white with platinum rimmed china.  If I have a bigger party, I can mix and match what I had with the new stuff.  I would go with 12 to be safe, if you have them, then you don't have to worry about needing more or the pattern being discontinued.  I also registered for a some serving stuff.  A platter, a few bowls, a covered veggie bowl, sugar, creamer.

we registered for 12, and some of the other pieces that go with it....we ended up with 4
and 2 pasta bowls (out of 12, which is probably too many for pasta bowls)
which is a bummer because i love our fancy stuff, but also good b/c we really have no room at all to store them....
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml

We got 12 placesettings.  We also got a gravy boat and two platters.  I don't think there was anything else really that was offered in our pattern, but we registered for everything that existed.

I did my registry a little wierd - When I went to Macy's the set I saw had the salad plate (or so I thought) with this beautiful pattern that pretty much sold me on the set.  When I looked over my registry online I realized that the plate was an extra "accent" plate and not the salad plate -which was actually plainer(but the same exact size?).  I was annoyed so I decided instead of ordering complete "set" I just ordered 12 each of the plates I wanted separately.

I'll see how it turns out, but I didn't want the set the way they were offering it- and I felt like it was too much money do get everything.

What set are you going with?

Sorry - my answer was incomplete.  I ordered 12, but I didn't order the coffee cups.  I won't be able to use my set anytime soon -our house doesn;t have a dining room.

I was going to order 10.  I think it depends on how much of a hostess you are :)

Thank you all so much for the feedback! I currently have 10 and will switch to 12. What's the worst if I don't get all of it.  This is the set I have decided on. What do you think?

I'm guessing I should look into the vegetable bowl, creamer, and sugar also.. It's not like people have to buy it. I can always use the gift cards later on that I accrue through macy's.

Thank you! That was the only one I liked in the store. I did alot of research and still favored that set.  Registering is hard!

We registered for 12 but don't expect to get that many. We are also kind of debating that if we only get like 4 sets - exchanging them for something else and just using my G-mas fine china :)

I ordered 12 as well, but fi's family is huge.  I also ordered an extra 2 platters and veggie dish.

I would work in multiples of 4. I have 12 place settings of fine china, but I should have registered for 16 b/c, at minimum, with having both families over we have 13 people.
In addition to place settings, I have 12 soup bowls, 2 gravy boats, salt & pepper shakers, sugar bowl & creamer, covered butter dish, 2 platters, 2 vegetable bowls and a coffee pot.

Even thought I registered for 10, 12 is probably better in case of breakage, etc. But right now our table only seats 4, so we couldn't even use the 10 that we have--not to mention I don't know where the heck we are planning to store all this stuff!
