addison park vs. westmount country club?

Ok so I have narrowed it down to addison park and westmount country club and will be visiting both again on friday for second visits.  At this point both places are relatively the same price- westmount is a little more.  I am hoping when I go back to addison park I will be able to negotiate more or get somethings thrown in.  Just wondering peoples opinions on food/service/overall place and how the two compared.  Unfortunately I haven't been to a wedding at either! Both are very beautiful and it is such a hard decision! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Both are very nice venues...my one BIG negative with Westmount is that you have to use one of their 3 florists, and from what I understand those florists are rather expensive.   For me that would be a deal breaker.

I haven't personally been to a wedding at Addison Park but it gets great reviews on her and a friend of mine just went there for a wedding and she said it was great.

I haven't been to a wedding at either place but the pictures I've seen of the Addison are amazing!! I think that place is stunning.

I went to a wedding at Addison Park and it was amazing - the food was delicious, the site was beautiful, and it was a good time for everyone.  If you pick this place, I would say to get uplighting because it really helps set the mood (the reception room has very tall ceilings).

I'm an Addison Bride... 09/04/2011... I LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!!!

Also-they were willing to negoitate with me on some of the things I wanted.. so I do not think you will have an issue with that.

thanks!! nicole- what price did they quote you for the Sunday?  I am paying 170pp with the addison menu but no additional dessert.. what type of things did you negotiate because I would love to have the price either go down or have things added especially more of a dessert then the one offered.  thanks for your help!!

i totally say westmount.. atleast the rooms are spread apart not a wall inbetween
  • edited December 2011
yea I do agree with that.. I am so nervous you will be able to hear the other party during toasts and slower dances.. also do both parties at Addison Park share the same bathroom?

You do share the same bathrooms.  I am not sure about the ability to hear the other party in the next room.  I just felt that regardless, Addison Park just fit our taste.. I like the retro yet trendy feel.  I

Lauren- We were quoted 150 for a Sunday but that was for the Clarion package.  I have up until a month before to decide if I want to upgrade to the Addison package.  We might just upgrade to Addison dinner options and not the whole package (not sure yet).  That being said, the price should come in to be about the same.

I asked for a vodka louge for our cocktail hour and for our cermony to be included in the price.  I also asked for an extra station for cocktail hour since we selected the Clarion package.

    Hope this helps!

thanks!! yes that does sound about the same price then.. I will definitely mention the vodka luge when I go back..that sounds fun! I am also going to try for the dessert platters on the table.. hopefully some form of negotiations happen!! thanks again for your help! one more thing.. do you know if that price per person includes tip for the maitridee/captains/bridal attendants for the party.. I've noticed at other places thats an additional cost and at addison park they didn't mention it.

Also- how many people are you guaranteeing and are you in the east or west room? just curious of the guarantees needed for a sunday for the west room

The gratuities and tax are all included except for the maitre d. We have the west room if that's the one to the right when you walk through the front. I have about 200 on our list, I think we need 175? I can't remember but its on our contract somewhere lol. The dessert plate was included at the time of booking- def ask about this because its on my contract but not on the menu brochure.

My friend fell in love with both but ultimately went with Addison Park because she was able to negotiate with them and Westmount pretty much makes you use their expensive vendors.

I had my prom at Addison Park, but that was before it was redone. It was very nice there, even back then. I have been to two weddings at the Westmount (one in each ballroom), and both of them were really amazing. The place is just gorgeous and it had a lot of little wow factors...like the driveway at night that lights up in the pavement...FI and I were like wow, this is really over the top and makes our wedding look pathetic. haha The food at cocktail hour is abundant and very good. The only negative I had was that for my entree I picked the beef and it was very bland and didn't have much flavor. But the cocktail hour and dessert hour were both really very good. You do need to use their florist, and my friend spent $5,900 for her flowers - which were very nice (orchids, calla lilies, etc.). I have to admit, at first I thought she was crazy for spending that much - but I am spending $6,500 for mine so I can't really say anything about that anymore...haha I guess it really all depends on what your budget is - but my vote is for the Westmount.

I was at a wedding at Addison Park and we could hear dancing during the toasts. I thought it was completely distracting. And the bathroom situation is horrible. Two bathrooms for both ballrooms. Men is outside of one ballroom and the women's is outside of the other. So either your women or men guests are going to have to pass by the other wedding to relieve themselves.

I have spoken to quite a few people who have had their wedding at Addison and this is the first time I am hearing a complaint.

I was torn between these two halls as well and ultimately decided on the Westmount.  They were both beautiful and the pricing was very similar ( for me Westmount was a little cheaper).  My concerns with Addison was as a few people have mentioned the seperating wall between the two rooms.  Addison said it was sound proof, but I had heard from a couple of people that if one room had the music going and the other did not, that you could definitely hear the other music.  Also, I had heard some mixed reviews on Addison's food.  Some people said it was great while others were not so impressed, so I ultimately went with the Westmount cause I had been to a wedding there before and loved the food.  Yes I do find it annoying about having to use their house florists, but I was completely blown away by my centerpiece mock ups and was able to get the price down considerably.  Honestly, I dont think you can go wrong with either hall.  It just comes down to your preference and getting the price you are comfortable with.

Why is it such a big deal if your guests have to go by another wedding to use the bathroom?   I don't get that.

I can't talk for the big ballroom at Westmount, but the Continental Room has the bathrooms for both men/women inside the ballroom itself against the far wall. We both have elderly family members so having a bathroom that is close for our guests to get to was very important. Not to mention, if they were outside the ballroom, I can see them getting confused as to which room to go back to unless there was someone escorting them. Yes, placement and size of the bathrooms was something we considered as part of looking at venues. We are dorks.

We booked our wedding at the Westmount for a Friday night, and having been to about 10 or 12 places before that, fell in love when we walked through the doors.  I'm not too worried about the florists, especially since I'm more interested in candle centerpieces than floral centerpieces.  I have absolutely no worries about the Westmount- everything is taken care of for you- they even threw in an extra Portuguese station during the cocktail hour for my fiance's family.  Really, it's where you feel like you're going to have the best time possible!

    my 2 cents

I had my venues narrowed down to

    1) The Merion (South Jersey venue) - where I booked
    2) Addison Park - gorgeous, but you can totally hear the other wedding on the other side of the wall.  I know they say it's sound proof, and most of the time it's not so bad, like when both DJs are pumpin the music.  BUT if your wedding starts after theirs and it's time for your speeches, you can hear the music and the bass!
    3) Westmount - my ceremony and reception are in the same location.  I wasn't keen on having them in the same room. The upcharge for filet mignon is crazy!  Their standard package includes prime rib - which we are not fans of.
