Am I crazy? hair/makeup question

So all along I have been planning on doing my own makeup and hair for the wedding. There are lots of reasons for this, but mostly I have done my hair and makeup for every wedding I have ever been in, and also have experience doing my makeup for TV and photo shoots and it has come out fine. I have curly hair, which kinda holds any position you put it in, which makes it easy for me to do it.

If I do it myself, I know I will be ready on time, I dont have to worry about going somewhere that morning or someone showing up late, etc. I also know it will be exactly how I want it. I have a birthmark as well on my face and I know that the way I do my makeup it will be covered all day. I am scared someone else would do it and it would show. And of course it is a lot cheaper for me to do it as well.

But whenever I mention to anyone I am doing my own hair/makeup they look at me like Im nuts. Am I? I personally think Id be more stressed relying on someone else to do this for me the morning of the wedding (Im a bit of a control freak haha), but I dont know. Do you guys think this is a bad idea?

I don't think that is crazy at all.

It would have been crazy for me to do mine, because I'm such an idiot with an eye pencil and can only do my hair two ways ((a) down, or (b) ponytail) -- but it sounds like you'll be perfectly happy with how things turn out.

You may want to talk about your bridesmaids about whether it makes sense to hire someone to do their hair and makeup (if they'd like it done professionally).

Yea that was part of my concern. I think they all want their hair and makeup done. I just feel like  a MAU will come to the house and be like WTF Im doing everyone but the bride? haha

I think if you have done this for TV and such before then you should do what you feel comfortable with.  The only concern for me is that I do my makeup awesome (so I think)  but after 4 hours its off. I plan on being on  the dancefloor all night which is why I am having it done.  Maybe go for a trial with someone?

Maybe you could setup appointments (if they'd like one) for all of your bridesmaids at a nearby salon (unless they all want to go seperately to their own places). That way they don't feel stressed about what they are going to do about themselves, and you don't have to be stressed about dealing with someone watching you do your own hair and make-up. If worst comes to worse, you could always have a trial and see if you like the way someone does your hair/make-up better than how you do it yourself (I'm sure if someone does make-up for a living they would be able to cover any spots for you) - that may make your decision about all of this easier. I had a trial for airbrush makeup and it covered all of my blemishes, red spots, and freckles.

I agree with cutiepie that maybe you can just set up appointments for them so they don't feel like they've been left hanging with this. I do my own hair and makeup and I think I do a fine job, but I don't have the experience to do it so that it stays on all night.

You're not nuts at all, you'll love the way you look, you'll feel comfortable and you won't have to worry about looking like Snooki with too much make up and poofy hair (in my experience that's what you end up with with hair and make up people lol). I will get my hair done for the wedding b/c I'm spaz when it comes to putting my hair up in anything but a ponytail, but I may very well do my own make up because I hate nothing more than feeling like I'm wearing clown make up, which is exactly what I've felt like anytime I've had a make up artist do my make up for me.

My friend did this and she looked amazing in her pictures (her wedding was in Australia). I thought she had it professionally done, but nope!

Thank you all so much- I feel much better and it is great knowing I am not the only person in the world who does their own haha. I was looking at pictures from my sisters wedding (the professional ones) and i did everything myself in those and think my face looked just like everyone elses w/ professional makeup, so I should be OK. I mean you always worry about the flash, etc but in her photos and my e-pics my makeup didnt look weird in the flash so hopefully thats a good sign. Thank you all so much for the support!

I think it's fine if you want to do your hair and makeup yourself. I would do my makeup myself because personally I like the way I do it, but I went for a trial and I loved the way she did it! Besides I got to test it out on a very hot and humid day to see how long it lasted...lol.

I wish I could do my own!  But I'm bad at that kind of stuff.

As far as the bridesmaid thing, I agree with the suggestion that they all go to a salon or somewhere separate from you together.

If you can do the hairstyle and makeup yourself, why not?  You have experience doing this so thats great.  I wouldn't feel pressured by others to hire someone if I know I can do it.
