Favors

Hey!

What is everyone doing for favors for the wedding?  I need some ideas... I'm considering wine bottles... I would love to have a photo booth but I think it's going to be too much money... I want something practical.. not a knick knack..

Do you like shot glass engraved and then you can fill them with personalized M&M's.

I personally like the idea of cookies, rather than some knick knack. But that's just my opinion. We haven't decided on what kind of cookie yet, but for our e-party we're also doing cookies. We're going to do engagement rings, double hearts, and a monogram cookie. We're also going to have "lovebug" cookies made since that is one of our nicknames for each other.

Shot glasses are knick knacks IMO- it's a wedding not a bachelorette party.

We wound up doing a photobooth. We got a good price from Masters of Fun Entertainment (especially since I booked it the week of the wedding), if you want to look into them.

If we didn't do that then we probably wouldn't have done favors at all. But my mother was positively aghast at the thought of that, lol, so she said she would put something together if we didn't (probably something edible, like candy or cookies).

Ditto PPs about the shot glass being a knick-knack, especially with your names/wedding date on it. I wouldn't want to keep that. Stick with something that people can eat or drink, or just skip it entirely.

Don't do a shot glass. You have to think of something that will appeal to the broadest majority of your wedding guests and anyone over the age of 21 will not appreciate this. Imagine your great aunt gertrude going home with a shot glass. Not a good idea.

We're doing a few things. The escort cards are going to be a mix cd of our favorite love songs. At each place setting there will be an organza bag with three chocolate truffles inside. And I'm still working on this, but we're thinking about having an old fashioned ice cream truck dishing out ice cream cones as people leave the reception at the end of the night. We figure between the three, everyone should find something they like.

Definitely do something edible. Do not do a trinket or knick knack that will just collect dust.

We are doing a donation in leui of favors.
It will probably be to one of the many cancer organizations that helped my dad tjis past year. (He has stage IV long / liver / esophagus cancer.)
We are also having 2 baskets of flip flops by the dance floor, just for people who feel like its not a *real* favor unless you can take it home.

We are doing snowflake wine stoppers. Since we are getting married Dec 3, the guests can use the favor throughout the winter.
Plus, they come packaged in a nice box, so they are presented nicely.
    Good Luck!

    Donation to two Children's Charities

A small box filled with Hershey Kisses and a note that reads "You have been kissed by a child, in lieu of favors..."

This way our guests have a little something to take home.

i wanted to go with ediable favors but i knew we were on a budget so we decided on letter openers. I didn't love the packaging they came in and i wrapped the outside parts of it so they match our colors, then FI made a comment like with all the $ your spending wrapping these things we could have got better favors. I wanted to choke him especially since i didn't spend more then $6 on tape/wrapping paper and ribbon. Ugh.. men!

Jtheiss, we also loved the idea of ice cream on the way out of the reception and thought about getting a Mister Softee truck -- and then we thought about how hard it would be to drive with a melting ice cream cone in one hand and nixed the idea.  Just a thought...

I agree with others that say something edible is good.  And as far as knick-knacks go, I do like the letter opener idea (as long as it is a nice looking one and doesn't look like one you'd pick up at a business convention).  But maybe that's just something that I don't have.  I have like 15 shot glasses and wine stoppers, and have no need for additional ones with couples' names on them or for the winter or whatever.  And a CD of love songs is also definitely getting recycled or left behind.

Trying to decide on favors is giving me agita.  Fortunately, I have 323 days to figure it out.

I agree with most of the posters that something edible is the best bet because mostly everything else will be thrown away.  Unlessss... I just had a cheesy idea. My FI and I are both in technology -- what about USB thumb drives with our names and wedding dates on them? You can't have too many of those... Then again, what would the non-tech savvy folk do with them?

    Sigh.  Back to square one.

To the original poster - a friend of mine had a wine making session with her FI and they have those bottles of wine as their favors.  If you're both big beer fans, you could do something similar.  There are a a few places you can go to to make homemade beer and wine here in Jersey.

We did a candy buffet.  It was a huge hit with our guests and everyone was able to find something they liked.  I don't think I saw anyone leave without at least a few pieces of candy.  So I definitely feel like it was worth the money.
