Jaytee - I will phone the mother and find one what he is into.  My one nephew was going thru his dinosaur phase at that age and he loved anything that had to do with dinosaurs...even dinosaurs pjs's.  My other friend's baby boy is into trains right now.

I agree with pp.  I would call the mom and see what he is into.  If that is not an option you could get him a $50 gift card to toys r us and a stuffed animal so he (or mom) can pick out whatever he likes.

Having 3 sons, their interests vary greatly!! I would check with his mom; but some generic ideas are a train table, Thomas the Train sets, Dinosaurs, Imaginex play centers, Lincoln Logs,  Action Figures for kids (Little Einsteins, Bob the Builder)

Toys are tough because you know they will get alot and you don't know what they are into...Lilllian Vernon and Pottery Barn Kids have really cute personalized things....How about this chair? My friend has one and her son loves it.

As a mom to a 2 and a half year old boy, I wouls say... savings bonds as well. Honestly, the last thing we/he needs is another toy. The only other thing I would suggest is buy him clothes the next size up for next summer, plus summer clothes are all on sale now.
