We live in Wisconsin and are planning a North Carolina beach wedding in October 2011. Does anyone know of a nice place on the East Coast to our ceremony and reception?
I'm getting married at the beach in Fort Fisher and we are having our reception at the Halyburton Park Events Center in Wilmington. If it rains, we will have both the ceremony and reception at Halyburton. There's a link on my vendor page in my bio.
We also looked at the Cape Fear Riverdeck, it's gorgeous.
And we also thought about renting a beach front property and having the reception there with the ceremony on the beach. Some other knotties have done this and it worked out beautifully.
If you go with the Wilmington area, I definitely reccomend any of the vendors on my page, they have all been wonderful to work with thus far.
I just got married there in May. Very inexpensive but nice. You can bring in all your own vendors and your own alcohol. It is also right on the beach!!
There are lots of places in Wilmington. If you are big on the beachy theme, you might want to look into the aquarium at Fort Fisher (for the reception, anyway). It'd be like dining under the sea after having your ceremony out on the beach!
The River Deck in downtown Wilmington is also waterfront, but instead of the beach, it over looks the Cape Fear River. I've seen some beautiful reception photos from there.
There's also Bald Head Island that has a lighthouse on it that I've seen many pictures of ceremonies from. Might be able to rent a beach house to host the reception afterwards if you can do it far enough in advance (and the wedding isn't too big).
There are many places to try (including the beautiful Outer Banks). You can see more specifics about the Cape Fear region by searching for Cape Fear Weddings on google. Should bring up a website with a whole host of ideas/vendors.

Happy planning!
