e-party question

Hi Ladies, quick question, our e-party is this weekend, and I've never been to one so I don't know what the etiquette is, do we open them in front of everyone? or in private?

usually in private. at least we did. we spent all of our time talking to our guests and family and sharing our engagment story.  plus engagment gifts are most often $$ so it can be kinda awkward when u sit there and open envelopes in front of others that are full of cash or checks...

I would agree with the previous post. My FI and I waited to open the cards and presents until we got back to our apartment. We spent out time talking with guests and having a good time with others.

In private. We had a more informal BBQ e-party at my mom's which turned into a huge nighttime party. We opened them the next morning with whichever friends slept over (who happened to be my BMs so they wanted to watch us open them, regardless of how hungover they were haha).

Privately. Our e-[arty was a champagne brunch and we wouldn't have had time to open then anyway. Afterwards, we had our parents and siblings back to our house and opened them all with them. It was much easier that way! :)

I would also say open them in private. Plus, gifts at engagement parties are not necessary. Yes, you will get gifts, but not necessarily from every guest in attendance. Opening the gifts in front of guests is especially awkward if not everyone brings a gift.

We did ours  afterwards when we got home. It was really fun to watch FI get so excited!

Mine was this past weekend... we opened them at the end with just the bridal party and whoever was hanging around since it was a casual at the house party.  I do have to say, we got very little $, we got mostly gifts from the registry.

I had mine this past weekend as well. FI and I opened ours Sunday morning when we woke up. Just the two of us. It was fun having the moment for ourselves.
