Addressing STDs

I know this has been asked before, but I am asking again :) 2 questions

1) For a formal wedding did you address them as formal as the wedding invitations so Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith or less formal so John and Mary Smith. THe wedding is very formal, but the STDs are a little more fun and less formal.

2) Couples that are unmarried. We have a lot of these so if they live together address to the person we know best first and then the second person. 

Now what about for those that do not live together, some of the significant others I know fairly well and don't want to offend.  Also, some of my friends that I do not know their significant others gave me their names (they do not live together) should I just address as if they were living together?  The only real concern is if they break up, but they would know they weren't invited anymore right.....

    we had a formal wedding but our STDs were casual and fun.  we didn't even know what we were doing for our wedding when we sent them out. 

    unmarried couples living together: we did the same; name we know better on top, otherwise ABC'order.  not living together: if knew both very well as individuals, sent individual invites.  if not, send 1 invite to person you know and include a note to please invite X of course!  if they break up before your wedding it's not your concern, by the time you send out invites you can either opt to still include a +1.  bottom line:: if you would NOT invite them to your wedding as individuals, then don't send individual cards.

    We addressed ours informally, cause they were cute and fun (IMHO)

    Couples that were living together we addressed to both.

    Couples that do not live together we addressed to just the person we know. They'll get their +1 with the invite.

    Thanks! I think I am going to do with John and Mary Smith it is more personal.  Allie- I like your idea of a note. I used to get upset when I would be listed and guest even though we had been together like 5 years! That does seem the norm for his family though.
