Olga - A piece of advice

Morning ladies!

I was skimming through some of the posts from last week and was reading the one about booking Olga. She did the alterations on my dress. I am convinced that no one else could have possibly done as good of a job on the bustle as she did. She is a super sweet lady with great prices and you can tell she really takes what she does seriously.

That being said, when you pick up your dress, make sure that everything that should have been done, is done. Olga gets extremely booked up and busy with other brides, so it's easy for her to overlook something. Make sure the dress fits right, feels right, that you (and another member of your bridal party) understand how it bustles, and that you can move around comfortably in the dress. My dress was not hemmed, or was not hemmed even close to being enough, and I did not realize it until I put it on on my wedding day. Upon my first appointment, Olga put pins in the hem so she could see where it needed to be cut.. but on my day, I had to walk around carrying the front of it, and all my pics going down the aisle, the dress is all pulled underneath my feet as I'm trying to walk without holding it (very traumatizing moment :(  ). I wish I had practiced walking around with it during my final appointment, so the oversight could have been discovered, that was my fault...or I wish she had not said, "honey, no way" when I asked if I should wear a petticoat under the dress, that would have helped. It needed more "poof" (as one of my wedding guests pointed out). Anyway I would hate for this to happen to anyone else so that's why I am posting this.

I remember that Katherine! I'm heading to my first fitting appointment (not with Olga though) and I was thinking about your dress. Thanks for the advice for those of us who haven't worked with seamstresses before, just like with any wedding vendor we have to be on our toes I suppose.

And I do love love love your dress! It looks so gorgeous in your pic, I can't tell it's not hemmed (not really any comfort now, I know.)

Katherine, I remember you posting this before, too, and I have always kept that in the front part of my mind so that I don't forget to make sure everything that needs to be done has been done!  Thanks so much for reiterating how important this is....I'm sure it goes overlooked so much because when you go for your final fitting you are probably in that "dreamy" state of how wonderful it is that your dress fits (or at least you think it fits!).

Thanks for the compliments y'all  :)  I did love the dress I just wish I could have walked around in it a little more easily. Luckily I had a big package of big safety pins so one of my BM's made a makeshift hem before the reception so I could dance and everything :)
