sticker shock

I got quoted $550 for my dress preservation at Hallak Cleaners in Hackensack.  Does this sound right?  I am having a VERY hard time with this price!

WHAT!?! Wow. I was totally going to use them too. I met them at a bridal show and I think they give you a voucher for a % off, but still. That sounds ridiculous to me too. Hopefully someone else will have more info??

I have heard of girls getting it done for $200-$250 the price you were quoted sounds crazy expensive.

i hope so too!  I def want to use a place that comes with recommendations.  I don't want to trust my dress to just anyone! LOL  My mother said to go to the local dry cleaners but I don't feel comfortable with that!

I'm thinking of sending it myself to WedClean.  If I use the store I bought it from, it's $250.  Hallak told me it was $100 just for the preservation box PLUS at least $250 more.  I think they're a big ol rip off.

Someone just posted about this last week..if you send it to WedClean on your own (NOT through a bridal salon) it's only ~$150.

    That was me!

My dress was unadorned silk, and under $2,000, so I didn't think paying $495 for the service Kleinfeld uses (J. Scheer) was worth it. And the stains - a dirty hem from being dragged around a park - were pretty straightforward, so I had no qualms about shipping it to a cleaning factory in upstate New York.

If my dress had a lot of embellishments or was elaborately constructed, or was by a name designer like Monique Lhuillier, I probably would have spent more to have it cleaned. And I would have it done at a place where I would bring it in myself so they can look at it, then give me a custom quote (as opposed to a one-price-fits-all operation like WedClean).

My complaint with WedClean/Wedding Gown Preservation Co. - I really hate the box my dress came back to me in! It's ugly, seeing the stuffed torso in the window creeps me out, and I've read that the clear material really isn't good for fabric. So eventually, I'm going to order a solid box, like one of these:
