The Shread

I was inspired by many of you ladies and bought "The Shread" dvd. I am on day 5 and starting to get used to it. Yesterday I thought I could move on to Level 2 already (Bad move...lol). After the 1st and 2nd day I could barely walk, but I am still pushing through....You guys weren't joking....it is an arse kicker..lol

LOL - I know - I couldn't walk the first few days.  I did it for about 2 weeks straight and then off an on.  Now I am eating really well and doing 45 min on the elliptical every night.  I actually just finished a week.  I need a little more cardio then I was getting on the Shred.  I am going to use in intermittently with my other workouts.

It's no joke though - that Jillian is crazy :)

She is crazy; that workout kicked my arse big time and I work out regularly.  Yeah level 2 after a couple days was a bad move :)  For Xmas DH is building me a gym downstairs so I'm pumped for that - I was doing so well on the shred  until we started our little 'home makeover' and the house has been in shambles

good luck on it - update us with your progress

I've done it for the past three days in a row. I used to do it a while back, but then stopped. I was using 3-lb weights and moved up to 5 lbs yesterday. I am feeling the difference but not too badly. It's more my legs/butt that are sore.

The only thing I can never finish is the shoulder raises in the third circuit! It's funny because I have pretty defined shoulders and huge traps, so I really try not to work out my shoulders. I change the squat and press in the first curcuit to squat and kickback (for triceps--those needs work!).

The first few days I really felt it in my legs..I still feel it, but today moreso in my abs. I do plan on sticking with it but also doing some extra cardio, since I have a gym down the hall at work. I plan on starting to try on dresses in January so I hope I make some progress by then :)

Yes, I finally tried this after reading millions of posts...  I had just completed the NY marathon when I started and this was STILL tough tough tough.  My only complaint is lack of variety....

You have big traps naturally? Or you work them out? I have been trying to better define my shoulders but nothign seems to work...pointers? A great triceps workout are skull crushers - lay flat on a bench, no incline, hold a bar (I do the already weighted bars of 20lbs. total) with your hands thumb to thumb in the very center, elbows together at a 90 degree angle raise and lower your forearms bringing the bar to the bar to the top of your forehead and back up

Naturally I guess. I don't do anything specific for shoulders other than raises to the front and side. FI makes fun of me because they are big! It's not noticeable or anything, but occasionally I'll see pictures, especially if I'm wearing a halter-style top where I look jacked and I'm totally not!

I have a naturally big butt...lol...no matter what I do that sucker never goes down. At my lowest weight (which was 112 lbs) I still had a butt and thighs.....gotta love genetics (or not)...lol

I have been reading so much about this 30 Day Shred that I am seriously thinking of trying it out.. I have been doing P90X for the longest time and while I LOVE it, I have gotten so bored of it.  Defly interested in trying something new!

I heard P90X is TOUGH! I remember some girls saying a while back they did 30DS and then P90X. Maybe 30DS will be too easy for you? Is P90X really hard?
  • edited December 2011
P90X is challenging! I am not going to lie it really works you out hard.  I almost completed the 90 days but I didn't do it everyday.  I never got into the yoga so I would do extra cardio on those days... You really start to see results after a few weeks.  My FI and I were doing it together for a while and we really enjoyed. He got bored of it first and then I continued but then I got bored doing it alone.  The other bad thing is that it can be long.. Some workouts are over an hour and let's face it there aren't enough hours in a day.

If you don't work out ever then I would not recommend trying P90X.  Overall I think its a great program but would love to try this 30 Day Shred.

Anyone done both?? Maybe give some insight or comparisons??

I've never done P90X, but I have worked out pretty hardcore before. Grad school did me in and I put on weight from working full-time, interning and taking 3 classes at a time. The 30-day Shread makes me sweat more than an hour on the treadmill at a 4.0 pace and an incline of 3 or 4. It definitely works you out.

How long is a Shred session? Sorry for all the questions.. Really want to se what this is all about before I decide to buy.. With everything going on I would definitely like something thats effective but doesn't also take an hour or more to do.

Altogether it's a little over 20 minutes, but the actual workout part is 18 minutes. It's broken into three "circuits" that consist of 3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio and 1 minute of abs. It sounds so short to write it out!

Thanks for the info! Defly want to try something new and think this may be a nice replacement for the time being..
