Palace at Somerset Park

Has anyone had their reception at the Palace?  I liked the venue, but would like to see if I could negotiate the price.  I'd be willing to take off some of the items included in the package.  Has anyone had any luck with that, or is this one of the places that do not negotiate?  Thanks!

I looked at the Palace and they were definitely willing to negotiate. One choice was to take the Venetian Hour off and that lowered the price significantly. I decided on a different venue just because of location and I received call after call with them willing to go even lower. Good Luck!!!

My cousin had her reception there and it was AMAZING!! if they are willing to negotiate you should!  I would suggest leaving out the Venetian hour...it was amazing, but it kind of "ended" the party because everyone left the room. Try doing dessert sampler plates at each place setting for dessert if you want to do something different!

Thanks!  I think the Venetian hour is a bit much, so the cookie plates sound like a great idea!

They are great. Just as an example--For our wedding, we are using large dinner plates and they will have a peice of wedding cake, a chocolate covered strawberry, a mini creme brulee, a couple cookies, etc. There will be 2 variations, and every other place setting will have a different one. So, its kind of like bringing the Venitian hour into the ballroom.

That sounds like a good option too!  I am debating between the Palace and Addison Park.  When I asked about customizing and such, the girl I was working with told me I would have to speak to a manager (if I wanted to get rid of the Venetian hour, for example).  I thought maybe they don't negotiate, but it is good to here that it could work!

I just booked my wedding at the Palace and they were willing to negotiate. They took out two cocktail stations, which we were fine with because they were offering so many. They kept in the Venetian hour, but now that I read the posts I might ask for the plates instead. For the Venetian hour do the guests go into the cocktail room and eat their dessert instead of at the ballroom tables? That might not be so good.

they eat the dessert at their table, but its set up in a back room ( not the cocktail hour room). So people start mingling, eat standing up, etc...and you kinda loose the "party". IMHO

This is good to know.  What I would like to do is get rid of 2 cocktail stations and the Venetian hour, and replace the Venetian hour with plates of cookies/pastries/fruit on the table.  I just wasn't sure how willing they would be to work with me, since the girl I spoke to told me I would have to discuss this with a manager.  When you negotiated, did you talk to a manager or just a sales rep?

We spoke to the sales rep and told her our budget. She said we could get to it with taking out stations/and or venetian hour. She basically told us yes at the meeting, but I still feel that she talked to her manager to confirm.  After that she contacted us and let us know that to get to that price we would have to take out two cocktail stations. It seems like she couldn't give us this on her own without talking to her manager. However, we got to the price we wanted so we were happy.

I went there and I just felt you could get more for your money at other venues to be quite honest.  Wasn't very impressed.  Westmount Country Club...Addison Park and even The Venetian give you more bang for your buck if you get married off season or on a Fri. or Sun.

Just starting looking for venues.  What is the price the Palace asks for?  I saw the menu and packages online, but didn't see a price with it.

Pricing was $175 for Saturday night in April, $185 in May.  Prices were slightly less for Fridays and Sundays.  Prices got higher as wedding season kicked in.  They were not particularly willing to negotiate for a Saturday night.  They were more willing to negotiate for off-season/off-days.

Is this $175/$185 before taxes/gratuity?  Or including?

can anyone tell me the average pp.. i am looking at this place this weekend and I am afraid it will be a little out of our budget.

A minor peeve of mine - and probably a lot of catering professionals: The dessert spread is Viennese, not Venetian.  :)

Hi, Do you mind if I ask how much your wedding at the palace cost, i like the place desert idea you did.
  • Hi has anyone had a wedding at the palace or been to a wedding there, I am considering booking them for my wedding and have a few reservations about the fact that there are 2 weddings occuring at one time, and also are you able to hear the other wedding at all? Thanks
  • I was wondering the same thing because now Im wondering if the prices the rep gave me were wrong. I know off peak season and friday/sundays are cheaper but she quoted me $85 pp plus 20% serive charge and 7% tax. I was planning on doing a jan or feb wedding in 2013. Im wondering if bc of the economy they have lowered thier prices? After taxes and all we were looking at around 110 but I was also wondering if they took out some stations they would lower the price. Has anyone else been qouted this price also? Im really praying that she gave me the right price bc I love this place. If anyone can give me some personal experiecne with them it would be great. You can email me directly at missdorado26@yahoo.com
    thanks
  • You must have misheard her - the price is $185 not $85.  Then on top of that is the 20% gratuity and 7% sales tax.

  • Hi all! I am going to view the wedding tom! I am in love with the place from the website and also a little skeptical as to whether it is overpriced. Does anyone know the avg cost of having their wedding at the Palace, in terms of just the venue itself?
