Sooooo tired of Florists! Need North New Jersey Florist and not be ripped off!

I have been to 6 different florists and each and every one of their quotes was way out of line!  For God's sake, they're live flowers, not golden dipped flowers!  I am looking for an affordable florist that is not going to rip me off!  I have been quoted anywhere from $3000.00-$10,000.00, which is ridiculous!  I don't want to spend more than $2000.00 ALL INCLUSIVE!  I have 5 girls and 5 guys, 2 mom's a grandma and 1 Dad.  I am going to have 18-20 tables and I have ALL the vases, I JUST NEED THE FLOWERS!  HELP ME SOMEONE PLEASE!  Money mouth

It might be the flowers that you are picking...? It might be hard with 18-20 tables to get under 2000 if you are picking out of season flowers.

Have you tried Stephanie from Floral Expressions in Hasbrouck Heights.  I visited many florists and she had the best price.  And she did an amazing job on my flowers, we were very happy.

I forgot to add...it really depends on the types of flowers that you are looking at.   If you want calla lillies, they are usually more expensive..that could be why you are getting higher quotes...let us know the type of flowers you are looking to get and we may be able to help let you know if $2000 is reasonable.

well i was in the same boat as you, of course i have expensive flower taste and a super small flower budget.. i went to some florists in north jersey who wanted 8,000 .. i went to brandywine florist in eb and got everything for 2,000 plus i got mostly all orchids, and i negotiated free delivery

I was having the same problem- we ended up going with AW Flowers who was way more affordable then the other florists, but Santos also is very good and provided me with a similar quote.

Quotes really depend on the type of arrangment and the season you are in. If you don't mind having more filler flowers that are less expensive and include greens then you will have better luck if you want an expensive flower and you don't want filler the price will be much higher.

Also you should always go to a florist and say this is my budget this is my color these are the pieces I need what can you do within that budget. Otherwise they will quote you for an arrangement without adding in the fillers that bring the price down.

Thanks Knotties!  You guys are great.  I did go into the florists with a budget and named so many different flowers.  Of course  I love Calla Lillies, but only asked for 2 or 3 in my bouquet.  My color scheme is burgundy red and all flowers offered were in season.  I named Callas, Gerbera Daisies, Roses, Dahlias, Carnations, Stock filler, basically any single flower that is burgundy in color, EXCEPT berries.  I was all the flowers, my girls, men and myself to be burgundy.  I will definitely try the ones mentioned in the replies and if anyone else has any other good ideas, believe me, I am open for suggestions!

    Thanks again!

Try Yumilla from Metropolitan Wholesale in Saddle Brook, NJ. She is a sweetheart and will work within your budget.  Please pm me if you are thinking about booking her. She will also make up samples of EVERYTHING. Her number is 201-794-4747.

I second AW Flowers in Kearny - I just went to see my models on Tuesday night, and couldn't be more pleased. Adam is wonderful; I gave him my budget and he stayed within it.

Sierra- I am also using Adam- how far in advance of your wedding did you see your models? My wedding is in June and I am not sure when I should arrange to go see mock ups w/ him.

I really hated my florist shopping too - it was sooo painful! What really makes a difference is what you're looking for. Centerpieces are the bulk of the cost for the most part - if you want to save money, that's where you can bring the price down. If you get low centerpieces, nothing elaborate, you should be able to come within your budget. While some florists are more expensive than others, most florists are willing to work within your budget. Every single florist gave us a quote and then told us that if it didn't fit in our budget they could tweak it for us. If you saw any florists you liked but quoted you a little high, you could always ask them to tweak it for you. Good luck!

The florists I DID like, I did try to ask them if they could tweak for me, but unfortunately, they all sold me a line of BS that they could go no lower.  I have done a lot of research for actual flower pricing and they were all crazy with their pricing.  I fully understand I am paying for their work and creativity, but they were a bit carried away.  one florist had the worst customer service, never called me back, didn't answer my emails, so him, I dropped like a hot potato!  One, his price was too high, so I let it go.  He then chased me for business.  When I asked him to work with me, he went down so little.  I rebutted and showed him where I would like to cut, further and he just flat out ignored me from that point on, so forget him.  One was so arrogant when I told her I could not work within her budget, which was BEFORE taxes and delivery, that she completely ignored what I said and proceeded to tell me when a deposit was due and when I should come to see the samples.  I have really approached every facet of this process with extreme caution and have done my homework, but this hump, I just can not get past.  I do want to try to call some of the suggestions that were listed.  Thanks again and if anyone remembers anything else, please let me know.  I really appreciate everyone's help!

gymchick05 - My wedding is February 27, so it was a little less than 3 months before. He actually called me Monday, November 29th to let me know he had the flowers we asked for, and we went in Tuesday night (the 30th) to see everything. It was very exciting to see it all come together!

    Stephanie from Floral Expressions

She had a great price, great service.  Avoid the big box stores, they have a lot of overhead to cover.

ive heard of some bad experiences with AW in kearny... im using Santos in Newark. They seem to be pretty honest and reasonable.

I am using Rose Petals and Lace. I definitely had a budget that I needed to stick under or at least not go over. Linda was very accommodating and I got everything I needed.
