NY Venues (Hudson Valley)- help for a friend

Starting to look for my friend- she is from Poughkeepsie but live in Orlando and is deciding whether she should have her wedding in NY or FL. Anyone know of any great NY (Hudson Valley area) venues? I know I should be posting this on the NY boards, but thought I'd ask you girls first

I got married at Round Hill House (Orange County)

But I was looking for something "non-reception hall-ish."

What is her budget and how many people?

In like Backyard Bride's suggestions.  I would also add Highlands Country Club, the Wainwright House, and Wave Hill.

Friends are getting married next summer at Patriot Hills Country Club in Stony Point, which I've heard good things about.  They're having their reception on a Saturday night in July, and are paying $120 per person (the groom announced that to a bunch of us at happy hour, which I felt was a bit unnecessary ... but at any rate, I know the price of that one!)

I went to a conference at Tarrytown House last year and wasn't really impressed, for what its worth.

Have you asked on the Hudson Valley board?  It is fairly active.

I agree. I was in a wedding at the Tarrytown House once and I didn't love it.

She doesn't have a true budget yet- would like to be somewhat budget conscious, but her parents are most likely footing the bill and so she has room to play.

She is thinking anywhere from 75-150 people. Probably a fall wedding for the trees, but that's not set in stone yet.

I'm just trying to get some preliminary feelers out to see what places are nice. Being that she's in Orlando, looks like I'll probably be doing a lot of the planning

With a smaller guest list, I'd really recommend that she look at Blue Hill at Stone Barn.  Such a lovely place and the food is supposed to be excellent (and not with the qualifier "excellent for a wedding venue" -- Blue Hill is an excellent restaurant).

There's a place that's iterally called (something like) The Views on the Hudson. But I don't really know much about it.

Seriosuly, you should ask on the Hudson Valley board. I'm there -- it's OK ;-) It's quieter than here, but people are around.

I think a NJ board is a good place to ask this question, since there is a bit of overlap. Many brides who don't want a typical Jersey wedding are often told to look over the state line.  :)

I visited The View on the Hudson, and I didn't like it - too commercial, the photos of the food didn't look appetizing and the sales guy was annoying. Nice view, though.

Consider the Dolce hotel in Palisades. It is (or was) an IBM corporate retreat. No view of the river or mountains, but the grounds are vast and green. It's a modern looking venue, and it's close to the George Washington Bridge. I went to a wedding there, and the only complaint I had was the entrée was overcooked.

I wasn't telling her to go away with her NY question  -- just that she might get more info there ;-)

Of course, that board is making a giant liar out of me by not answering you!

Give it 24 hours and see what pops up ;-)

my friend got married at the Wainwright House in Rye.  it was right on the water and it was GORGEOUS.  they also have a house nextdoor that the entire bridal party stayed at.  it was SICK.

My brother got married at The View on the Hudson in Piermont.  The food was good, not great.  They loved their banquet manager...and the view is awesome.  I would recommend it.

I LOVE Wainwright House.  That was the very first venue we visited after getting engaged...I was crushed when I learned that the tent wouldn't accomodate our 300 person guest list.  Oh well.

Tappan Hill is really nice...it is an Abigail Kirsch location.  It has pretty views of the Hudson too.

If budget isn't an issue, then definitely check out Blue Hill Stone Barns.  The food and presentation are pretty awesome.  My fiance is a chef and he took me here for my 30th birthday. It was a wonderful meal.  The location is rustic (although just a quick drive from Tarrytown and Rt. 9) and surrounded by trees and fields.  The food is $$$$$ though...we eat out at 4 and 5 star restaurants all the time and this was one of our most expensive meals.

The Grandview in Poughkeepsie is a really nice place.  It overlooks the Hudson and they have a gorgeous permanent tent for warm weather weddings and a equally beautiful ballroom for not so warm weather weddings.  I really liked the look (not cheesy at all) and the food sounded great but it was just a little too far of ride for my disabled mom... otherwise it would have been my venue.  http://www.grandviewevents.com/

I went to see view on the hudson and thought the decor was from 1970.  I liked the Nyack Seaport much better, and it's within that budget.
