Tipping Question...

Hi Everyone!
My wedding is a week and a half away so FI are starting to talk about envelopes for tipping...can you guys give some advice on what to tip? You don't have to give an amount, even a percentage or an idea would be great...one of my girlfriends said to tip 10 percent of total wedding cost to the maitred but that is like 4K...is that true?? Even when I said gratuity is included in our price per head, she said I should still give 10 percent of total wedding cost..is that true? I have no idea about this stuff..
Also, any help of how much to tip photographer, videographer, Dj, etc would be helpful...I hope I am not being too bold my asking...I would love a PM if you do not want to post an amount on the board...thanks so much in advance

No....you do not have to tip the maitre D that much. We tipped ours 300 and my dad loved him, so gave him an extra 100. We gave the photographer an extra 100 even though he owned his own company, but he was awesome, so we figured another 100 would be nice. The videographers we gave a big fat O because they showed up during the cocktail hour after the ceremony (don't get me started on that one). The DJ we gave 100 and the emcee 50. I gave the hair and make-up people 20% even though they made all the money because they were coming to the house, but they totally deserved it. We also tipped the flower delivery guy $30 and the limo driver $60, because he owned the company.  Just be careful because after a lot of drinks and happiness, the men tend to become tip happy...lol

I think the maitre d gets 1% of the total price of the reception.  That is what we were told we are supposed to tip. 10% would be way too much.

They would have to drive to the venue and wait there. We are all getting ready at the hotel then heading to the Venue for pictures. The florist has to set up the centerpeices and I am assuming will be leaving the flowers there.

Danes- can you have the maitre d handle the tip for the florist?

I tipped the florist delivery person $25 (we didn't have centerpieces for them to set up), the hair and makeup people (I tipped 20% I think of the total for everyone- and then two of my BMs and my aunt tipped in addition to that b/c they were so happy), limo driver I think $40 since the tip was already included- he was just awesome, maitre d a few hundred- I think $300?, FIL tipped the bar tenders, and I don't think I tipped the phtog/videog/dj but we could have, just don't remember now.

<div>What about your Bouquet?  are they going to be leaving that at the venue as well?  Could you have them deliver that to the hotel (if it isn't too far or on their way)</div>

Seasons requires us to tip the maitre'd 4% of the total reception cost on the day of the wedding if that helps.

Our venue says prices include gratuity and tax. Should we still tip the maitre'd? or bartenders?

Our venue includes gratuity as well but that does not include the maitre'd, who I have heard splits it with the cooks and other parties involved. the gratuity per plate is for bartenders and waiters...that is what people tell me anyway
