Old Mill Inn, Basking Ridge

Hi!  I'm wondering if anyone had there wedding here.  I've booked for my May 2011 wedding and they said that I will get my Matre D assigned three months prior.  I'm just hoping someone can tell me how their whole process works, I've asked for a timeline, but they said the only things that really happen is the tasting, and then all decisions that are made would be with my Matre D.

Any info would be great....THANKS!

I didn't get married there but my friend did. Essentially, her maitre d was like her wedding coordinator. He was with them the entire day of the wedding, was there the morning after for the bruch, and helped with anything anyone part of the wedding needed. They were required I think to tip him 10% of their total bill though I think.

I don't have any information regarding the question at hand, but I am also getting married at The Olde Mill Inn, June 2011, so I will be following this thread, (because I am curious to of the process) and just wanted to say hi to a fellow same venue bride!

I'm getting married there on November 7th, and we were told we'd get our maitre'd about 2 months before the wedding.  Also, while I agree the maitre'd fee is alittle high compared to others, our info states a fee of 5-7% is not included and is payable to the maitre'd at our discretion, so not required.  But hey - if he/she does a great job, I have no problem with the 5%! We're going to our tasting on Wednesday.

SCGee - it says you're from the DC area.  I just moved up to NJ from Arlington in October 2009.

It's not 10% (at least not in my case).  It is a little higher than other places (which I was aware about before we booked it) - a suggested 5-7% at our discretion.

Thanks for all the info ladies!  I feel much more comfortable now.  Hi to my fellow Old Mill Bride!!! So nice there right??

BTW, I just read my contract again and notice the 5-7% gratuity for the Maitre D....Ooops.   I guess I have to adjust the budget, LOL!

Related question:  I'm getting my cake from there. (Included in my package)  Any idea of what they offer for their cakes?  I figured it would just be something simple.

I think you taste the cakes at the tasting (might be wrong on that but will be able to tell you after next Wednesday), and then you work with the matire'd on the design of the cake.  We went to the bridal show there in June, and the cake baker was there.  It looks like he had a book of cake designs that you can pick from and then they'll customize a little.  Again, that's just my read on it now - might be wrong.   Will find out soon enough!

I just got married at the OMI (grain house) in May. You can go for your tastings whenever - they are once every month - just call to find out the dates and sign up. We did our tasting in December b/c my DH was living in SF at the time. We met with our Maitre D about 2 months prior to set the menu and the details for the day. I think they normally meet w/ you 1 month prior but I had sent up different arrangements since my DH was across the country.

There was nothing in my contract about a Maitre D fee so I just gave what I felt was appropriate.

As for the question on the cake, they bring a cake in for the food tasting but you can also set up a separate cake tasting with their baker (the baker is located in clifton nj). Basically you can pick out of a book for the cake and whatever fillings you want. I don't think you'll have a prob finding one you like. I LOVE my cake - tasted and looked great! :) I've attached a pic.

Nope, flowers weren't real - they're icing.  The style of the cake was "#2/American Beauty" in ivory buttercream.
