Passports are on the way!

Well, after sitting in the post office for over 2 hours on Friday, we were finally able to make it to the top of the line and apply for our passports!!!  I am so excited!  Just in case anyone doesn't know (because we sure didn't have a clue) you are supposed to make an appointment to get your passport.  (well at least around here you are, not sure about the rest of the state).  The lady was really rude, but she did manage to work us in, so that was a major plus.  We were like so many others trying to get in before the price hike that happened Tuesday.  Now, hopefully in four weeks, I will have a ticket to paradise...hehe!!!  Yaaayyy!!!

Wow! South Carolina is different...it was a little easier...I was done with the whole thing in like 15 minutes...no appointments and you do it at the county clerk...not the Post Office here.

I was impressed with how quickly the passport came in...they said to expect 2-3 months and mine was like 4 weeks if that.  Whoo! What a relief to get that part done...I know I felt relieved!  Jamaica here we come in 54 days!

well, for future reference, the renewal is a pretty painless process.  Just make sure to get them renewed before the original expires!!  Laughing

    When did you apply?

I went on Monday.  Price hike was effective Tuesday.  I called around the Post Offices in the Triangle area, and they were all booked solid. Some were booked for 2 weeks. I ended up going to the Johnston County Clerk of Court, which does not take appointments.  I walked in, no wait, was helped immediately, and with  some friendliness.  I was done in less than 10 minutes (I had all my info together).

I advise to go to the Clerk of Courts over the Post Office.

I got mine about 2 years ago. I went to the post office across from Cameron Village. I don't think I had to have an appointment then and it only took about 15 minutes. I forgot all about the price hike. I decided to wait to get my new one with my married name for a while. We don't expect to travel out of the country for at least a year or 2. How much did it go up?

Tough luck for us. Mine expired a few years ago. I'm not sure if the boy has ever had a passport.

"you are supposed to make an appointment to get your passport."
Whoa, I wonder if this is a new thing.  I remember when I got mine I just showed up at the post office with the paperwork and that was that.

It depends on the post office.  The ones in the bigger towns require appointments, but not all of the post offices int he state do.  FI went to the one in Burlington and didn't need an appointment, but all the ones in Greensboro required an appointment, so you just have to call first.  There is also a list on either the USPS.com or Dept of State website that tells you which ones require appointments.

Yea I didn't make an appointment either when I got mine done, a few years ago.  It was easy and painless.  I do have a mugshot as a picture though. lol.

When I got mine done it was at the huge post office over by RDU.  But it was also 2000 when I got it so I'm sure the rules have changed a lot since then heh.
