Reception Prices in Northern NJ?

I recently got engaged and want to book our reception hall ASAP before everything books up. We're open to May/June and September/October of 2013. Do the prices change through different months or is wedding season one price throughout?

I have a list of places and would appreciate if anyone could fill me in on some actual per perosn prices for them instead of the "$$" and "$$$" The Knot uses. Our budget is a little tight and we're aiming for $100-$125 a person for around 150 guest. We're also in north Jersey, Jersey City area if that helps.

Here is my list so far, any tips and suggestsions are appreciated. Thanks!

Prices def. change through the months. May/June & Sept/Oct are considered the "popular" months so prices are generally higher during this time. Have you decided when you want your wedding (Friday night/Saturday night/Sunday)? Sundays and Fridays are cheaper than Saturday nights. You'd also be able to save money if you're open to an afternoon wedding (or maybe on a holiday weekend). I think Rockleigh, Venetian and Westmount are out of your price range for a Friday/Saturday evening so I'd look into a Sunday (if you're set on having your wedding during one of the months you listed above) or another month in general if you're open. Best of luck with everything & don't freak out about dates getting booked up... you have plenty of time. Let me know if you need anything else. =)

Congrats! I recently went to the Grove for May/June 2013 and they quoted me with 200 min guest. I can't recall the prices but they were above your budget without tax and gratuity included. The Venetian also was 200 min guest for evening for the smaller ballroom. Good luck!

oh... and the Grand Chalet was around 80ish for off season also. That was one of our choices but we didn't like their food.

The Gove quoted me at $250 a head!  For a May 2013 wedding.

Tides was $114.00 for a Friday $146.00 for a Sat...thats w/ tax and everything included.

Mayfair Farms was $95.25 pp on a Friday w/ tax and everything included.  The website does not look nice but it is a very nice place!!

RIchfield Regency - $101.60 for Friday $127.00 for Saturday w/ tax and everything included.

Il Tulipano was $114.30 for a Friday

Good luck!!  Remember try to beat them up as much as you can in price!!  They all will budge.

Is $100-$125 before or after taxes? If so, like LissyMB said, a few of those places are out of budget.

Prices at the Empire Club start at $65 pp. The Tides prices are very reasonable i believe they also start at about $75 pp. I may be wrong but didn't The Groove recently get shut down? Are they back open?

I'm pretty sure Valley Regency will be out of your price range.  My friend paid 165 for a Sat night in November.

The Rosewood is definitely in your price range, and they have great food.

I also recommend that you try Ravello's in East Hanover.  I got married there recently and it was nothing short of spectacular.  They charge the same price for any Friday night (high season included), what I paid per person (including tax and tip) is right within your range.  Not sure about Saturday but worth a look.

    Other places to try:
    Grand Summit Hotel in Summit
    Primavera in Stirling
    Bridgewater Manor in Bridgewater
Bretton Woods Mansion in Morris Plains

Not when I went there two months ago. The base price for an April wedding (they considered it off season) was ~$80pp. Through various cuts & haggling (limited alcohol & paying cash), we got them down to $67pp for a Saturday. It would've been much less if I did Sunday. It comes with a lot, in my opinion, so I felt I was getting a great bang for my buck.

The Grove quoted me about $150 pp for a Friday night in July (w/o tax and gratuity), however, I can say that that kind of pricing probably no longer applies because I went before they were open and I was told that this was special pricing for weddings booked in advance of their grand opening. Now that they're open, I see based on the quotes pp on this thread that the price pp has gone up. That's just insane. Also, like some of of the OPs have mentioned, they were recently shut down due to noise ordinances...not sure of their status now.

May I recommend Il Tulipano (right down the street from the Grove)? Depending on the season and day of your wedding, they might fall into your price range with tax and gratuity included. I am getting married on a Friday in July, and the price pp was MORE than fair....and I am getting everything from soup to nuts.

I don't have prices for any of these, but I'd like to recommend The Estate at Florentine Gardens, if you're willing to consider a daytime wedding their prices go down dramatically.  Good luck with your hunt!

The Empire Club was going to be $68 pp for us for a Saturday in November.

We selected a dish that uped the price to $78 (maybe $75 I don't remember)

We didn't have to haggle much with them, I think they did a lot for us because we booked so far in advance. The people there are awesome.

The newly renovated room is a min of 200 people- it is gorgeous, my friend tried inviting 100 extra people JUST to get that room but it didn't happen.

She spent $116pp on a Saturday night in September.

Valley Regency is $139 pp (inc. tax/grat) for a Sunday night in Oct - 140 minimum.

Westmount was around 130/140 (NOT including tax/grat) for a Sunday in Oct./Nov.

I recently had my reception at Il'Villaggio and just attended a wedding there a couple of weeks ago. I highly recommend Ilvillaggio! It might be a little out of your budget depending on the day of the week. For a Saturday night our minimum was 150.
  • edited December 2011
I can only help with April pricing, but maybe it will give you an idea... Valley Regency, Saturday night 145 min head count ( dropped it from 175) and $165pp taxes and fees included Il Vilagio, Sat night 135 min head count (dropped from 160) and $160pp taxes and fees included You might want to look at The Villa. It's priced very well in your price point and is a lovely location. The Atrium, Mayfair Farms, The Manor, The Tides Estate, Highlawn Pavillion, The Landmark, Berkley Plaza and Paris Inn are all in your price point too! Don't feel as though you are at a "tight" price point. This is actually a very popular price point in NJ. As you can see from the posts, you have lots of options...and there's a lot more out there too!! :o)

I would highly recommend checking out my venue too- Hamilton Park Hotel in Florham Park- amazing food, very modern, and just the best people to work with- so on top of everything! If your price point is before tax/grat you can look there on a Saturday night, otherwise Friday or Sunday may work best. We had 125 minimum and paid $156pp w/ tax/grat included.

Agree with PP that said that The Grove, Westmount, and Venetian are out of that price range for an evening wedding.  Not sure if they offer day wedding options.  My experience with Valley Regency was that they quoted really hight but came down significantly off of that original number.  They are also willing to work with your budget and customize a menu to fit.

We booked The Wilshire Grand in west orange, They are gorgeous. It is right next to verona park . Great to take pictures . I am paying 135 plus tax and grat, it comes out to be about 170 a person. I guaranteed 250 min. And the great part is they do one wedding at a time. Did you look at the brownstone. They are a wedding factory but there prices are very reasonable. And the manor as well .

We second Il Tulipano. Beautiful outdoor/indoor area for cocktail hour and the food is phenominal. They are also easy to work with although thier valet/parking is an issue but that should be resolved by 2013.
